The Year of the Red Spring[c] is a name that describes the year 126 AC.[a][b]
In the books[]
In Fire & Blood, the year 120 AC is remembered by this name. It was so-named for the high amount of tragic deaths and accidents that occurred within that year:
- A fire at Harrenhal, claiming the lives of Lyonel and Harwin Strong.
- Laena Velaryon's death in childbirth.
- The death of Laena's son, an hour after her.
- Aemond Targaryen's confrontation with his nephews Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey Velaryon, in which he lost an eye.
- Laenor Velaryon's fatal duel with Qarl Correy.
