House Poole
House Poole

"If you break anything, the septa will have my head."
―Vayon Poole, referring to Mordane, ordering two Stark servants[src]

Vayon Poole served House Stark as the Steward of Winterfell.

Biography[]

Background[]

Vayon Poole serves House Stark as the Steward of Winterfell. He is the father of five daughters, one of whom, Jeyne Poole, is Sansa's best friend.[1]

Game of Thrones: Season 1[]

When Luwin approaches Catelyn to talk about the costs of the royal visit to Winterfell and the need to replace the members of the household that accompanied Eddard to King's Landing, she, grieving for Bran, tells Luwin to have Poole see to the task. Luwin notes that Poole also went south with Lord Stark.[2]

Poole is later killed by Lannister men during the purge of the Stark household ordered by King Joffrey after Eddard tries to remove him from the throne. He is attacked and killed while he and his men are packing for an evacuation Eddard has ordered in anticipation of his move against Joffrey.[3]

In the books[]

In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, Vayon Poole's background and death are the same.

There is no mentioning in the books that Vayon had any children in addition to Jeyne, though it is not said explicitly either that Jeyne was his only child.
