Fanart heraldry

This wiki only uses the official heraldry designs established in the TV continuity (which includes even things which briefly appeared in the animated featurettes). Because there's more than one way to draw "a lion" or "a warhammer".

Please remove the ones you just added.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 16:45, January 6, 2016 (UTC)

Just saw this. Nuts. Ser Shield McShield (talk) 21:54, January 7, 2016 (UTC)Ser Shield McShield

Please get around to removing those.

Also House Marsh's heraldry actually hasn't been established in the TV continuity.

House Hollard's has appeared...though I think the crowns on his armor only have three points; so that needs to be updated. Righty.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 23:24, January 7, 2016 (UTC)

You need to get to removing all of the book only shields you added.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 16:08, February 6, 2016 (UTC)

I have removed the ones I added a couple of weeks ago. Which ones are referring to? Have you noticed that there is a different person adding book only shields?

I do still need to update House Hollard's shield but I need to find the time. But I'll get around to it soon.

Anyway, I am confused on what you are now referring to. Please clarify. Thanks.Ser Shield McShield (talk) 19:33, February 6, 2016 (UTC)

Early Baratheon Heraldry

Ack, this is a mistake I made; you based it on my mistake so it's not your fault:

I updated the Heraldry to explain this:

House Durrandon had a crowned stag, because they're kings - though not really "because", other heraldry can have crowns in it without being kings, that's not a rule. It was a fan assumption for many years that the Baratheons starting with Orys stopped using the crown, but then re-added it after Robert became king - and thus it wouldn't have a crown in the Dunk and Egg era or for Robert's father Steffon.

The problem is that in the Tales of Dunk and Egg prequel novellas, Lyonel Baratheon is explicitly and repeatedly stated to use a crowned stag as his heraldry.

So apparently that was just a fan assumption. I asked Elio Garcia of about this and he said that (while not giving total confirmation) he thinks that in Steffon's day they still used the crowned stag.

....the problem is that because this was a widespread assumption, even the TV writers seem to have gotten it wrong. When Luwin quizzes Bran on heraldry back in Season 1, he explicitly says that it is a crowned stag now, because Robert is king -- implying they only added it back after Robert became king. But this may have just been the scriptwriters not paying close enough attention, or, because so many fans got it wrong (it was a widespread assumption) they may have even checked fansites - but the fansites were themselves in error.

So for the moment add the crown back...I think...this is officially on the "list of things I would ask the writers if ever allowed to do Q&A" (It's an actual running list). --The Dragon Demands (talk) 20:32, February 14, 2016 (UTC)

I'm confused - you want me to add the crown back because it says so in the novellas but the only statement about it in the TV series is that it was added back when Robert became king? This looks to be against the overarching rule for this Wiki - that everything is how it is in the series. I have never read any of the books so the only thing I have actual knowledge of is the TV series, which said that the crown was added later. So it always bugged me that this Wiki used a crowned stag for Robert's ancestors when Bran said it was added after he became king. And now you're siding with the books - I think - by saying I should put the crowned versions back. I don't get the inconsistency. Ser Shield McShield (talk) 01:43, February 20, 2016 (UTC)

(Yes, I check the Recent Changes on a regular basis so respond on your own talk page if I leave a message, so the conversation doesn't get all broken up)

....yeah, the TV show made the mistake of having Bran Stark say that the Baratheons only recently started using a crowned stag.

Tell you what, leave the pages as they are don't waste time reworking it. I'll just remember this on the "list of questions we would ask the scriptwriters".--The Dragon Demands (talk) 18:33, February 20, 2016 (UTC)

Now that it has been shown in the show that House Baratheon has always used the crowned stag version of the sigil (so Bran spoke inaccurately), I have removed the non-crown versions.

Sigil of House Dayne

My update was based on this photo. What's the source of the version you reverted to? --CrappyScrap (talk) 07:22, May 11, 2016 (UTC)

EDIT: User:Xanderen just showed me the source, which I was unaware of. I don't know which one is more canon, so I'll leave it to you. I kept the tone of purple, however, as it's closer to the color in the screenshot. Best, --CrappyScrap (talk) 16:08, May 11, 2016 (UTC)
I think the sigil in the White Book shown in the TV show is about as canon as you can get though there is always the possibly that the sigil shown in the TV series is Arhur Dayne's personal sigil and House Dayne's sigil is the one you found.
How about we table this issue and see if there any clarification when the TV show returns to the Tower of Joy and/or possibly shows Ned Stark going to Starfall to return their family's sword. Plus, that shade of purple you used can't be right - it's way too bright.
Anyway, we will get this finalized in the near future. Hold tight. Ser Shield McShield (talk) 19:30, May 11, 2016 (UTC)
I think the current greyish pink color is even further away from the sigil in the book (which looks like dark, blue-ish purple). But I guess we can wait and see - hopefully, the Tower of Joy scene is not the last we get to see of House Dayne. --CrappyScrap (talk) 23:07, May 11, 2016 (UTC)

Edit summaries

Thanks for all your hard work removing bad edits. Please try not to rise to them in the edit summaries - sometimes vandals thrive in knowing they are being irritating and this encourages them. We have to rise above it and show that it means little and less to us to undo bad edits so there is no point making them.--Opark 77 (talk) 21:52, June 8, 2016 (UTC)

True but I don't think they are vandals - I just think they are idiots. Only in the past week, there have been a ton of just poorly written and/or factually incorrect edits by anonymous users. The vandals tend to just vandalize with nonsense. But, point taken.

On a different note, can you help me have the banners and older versions of the shields deleted from the wiki? While you have been gone, we have trying to get all shields as one version - the "main-shield" version - so that if a shield needs to be updated, it gets updated everywhere on the wiki. But the older versions keep popping-up since they still exist on the wiki. We also decided to get rid of all of the banners - just too much work creating them for each house.

All of the shields and banners that are no longer being used anywhere on the wiki have added to the "Candidates for deletion" but I have been trying to find an Admin to take the time to actually delete the files.

Ser Shield McShield (talk) 22:09, June 8, 2016 (UTC)

Images for deletion

I've cleared the heraldry image files from this category as requested. Thanks for all your work on streamlining the heraldry and making it consistent. Please let me know if there is anything further I can do to help.--Opark 77 (talk) 14:17, June 9, 2016 (UTC)

Much appreciated! I already found a few more to delete that I have added to the "Candidates for deletion" category.

On a bigger note, I have taken this work about as far as I can take it at this time. The older versions of the shields are still used in three groups: summary of battles, which I am slowly updating, family trees which are all locked, and a few character pages that remain locked such as Catelyn Stark.

Do you have a suggestion on how to tackle the family trees? You could do them yourself but that seems like a lot of work. Unlocking them for the general users also seems to be a non-solution - they were all locked for a reason in the first place. Is there a third way?

For the character pages, could you unlock or make the changes yourself to the following pages:

3. (Though for this one, I think the Heraldry should just be deleted given that she is supposedly just a commoner).

4. (I think you should just update this one since there is way too much potential for spoilers).

Regards Ser Shield McShield (talk) 20:43, June 9, 2016 (UTC)

Why did you undo my edit to Ned Stark's page? I thought that the comparison between him and the wolf crest of his house based on his devotion to his family was quite fitting. Wolfschuller69 (talk) 19:17, June 9, 2016 (UTC)

Because it is false connection you are trying to make. The Personality sections for these characters are to describe the personalties that the characters displayed on the show - not to try and match their personality to their particular house's sigil. So while your actual words were well-written, it is irrelevant to the overall show. Plus, George RR Martin has stated that a big theme of his writing is deconstructing these fantasy tropes - he thinks most fantasy writing is hogwash such as warriors having no remorse for who they kill, maidens just waiting around for their Prince Charming to rescue them, etc. Then you come along and start trying to connect things that are not connected - Ned Stark is just like a wolf, Tyrion is just like a lion, etc. - no they aren't, they are people. So I removed your two edits to try to nip this line of thinking in the bud.

New White Walker heraldry

HorseCorpses 3x03.jpg

The Dragon thinks we need a new sigil for the White Walkers. I'm afraid this goes beyond what I can do with my simple editing skills. Perhaps this is something for you to take on? --CrappyScrap (talk) 11:06, June 20, 2016 (UTC)

I was thinking the same thing - but I'm swamped at work and have family visiting for the moment so I can't get to the design for each least a couple of weeks.

Maybe someone else will be able to take a stab at it in the meantime.

Regards Ser Shield McShield (talk) 17:59, June 21, 2016 (UTC)

Sorry but no. The forming in the ground simply cannot be their sigil because the one worn by Night King on his chest template is the real one and judging by how other characters e.g. Littlefinger, Roose, Sansa wear clothing with their house symbol/sigil close to their chest/heart, it is implied that is the way they show their house sigil. Not by making corpses in spiral formation for some sort of ritual HAHA Ramsay Sworn to Night King 03:41, July 26, 2016 (UTC)

You speak with such authority on the meaning of the symbol on the Night King's breastplate but your only evidence to support your view is that because people wear their symbols, the symbol on the Night King's chest must be used in the same way. That's a really strong conclusion to make for such flimsy evidence.

What do you think the meaning is that each White Walker has its own symbol on its breastplate? How about your thought that the White Walkers did not start wearing armor until after Sam killed one of them? If the symbol was so important, why only show it on the armor? Maybe the symbol is more an insignia of rank, not of its "house". Plus the concept of having a coat of arms for a non-human weapon system created by other non-humans seems to immediately put all theories on what is "correct" on shaky ground. But at least the 7 tailed spiral is something that the White Walkers created themselves and has the added benefit of symbolizing its origin as a species - which is similar to what is shown on many coat of arms. On the other hand, the symbol on the Night King's breastplate seems to have no connection to any other design on the show. Maybe its meaning will be revealed later or maybe it has none at all. In the meantime, don't act like you actually know what it means - no one does except maybe the person who created it in the first.

Regards. Ser Shield McShield (talk) 08:19, July 26, 2016 (UTC)

Yeah but to make assumptions of new heraldry for White Walkers, when this was only briefly showed 3 years ago in Season 3 and hasn't been brought up since?? But then again Night King did first appear in Season 4 wearing his "coat of arms" on his breastplate - while spiral corpse in the ground hasn't since been used to mean anything. Just stating things as I see them as the Seasons of GoT go on. Ramsay Sworn to Night King 12:35, July 26, 2016 (UTC)

...what individual symbols on their armor? Screencaps? Was even the Night King's a "symbo" or just a shape in the armor?--The Dragon Demands (talk) 13:54, July 26, 2016 (UTC)

Yeah I'm sure Littlefinger's mockingbird is just a shape in his armor as well. Anyway end of discussion. Have a nice day. Ramsay Sworn to Night King 14:48, July 26, 2016 (UTC)

As I was looking for a good screenshot of the Weirwood tree with the Three-Eyed Raven and the headstones around it to finally start creating a design from it, I found this discusson of the various White Walker symbols, with screen caps:

Other White Walker symbols worn screencaps:

Some screencaps of other White Walker symbols (No Season 6):

Finally, what I think is an especially good picture of three of the White Walkers - just for fun:

Regards Ser Shield McShield (talk) 17:57, July 26, 2016 (UTC)

Why would you cross out my comment above? If you don't like then just remove it, instead of putting a strikethrough it. Thank you. Ramsay Sworn to Night King 18:14, July 26, 2016 (UTC)

Way too distant?

I gotta say that I disagree when you say Drogo is way too distant a relative to Jon. I know they never met but he was married to his aunt. Shaneymike (talk) 20:37, July 3, 2016 (UTC)

No one on the entire planet - except maybe Howland Reed and Bran Stark - knows that they are related and they are related only by marriage and only for a short time. Jon could kill Drogo or vice-versa and no one would consider it kinslaying. Hence, too distant of a relation to include.

Would you like to be an Administrator?--The Dragon Demands (talk) 05:26, July 5, 2016 (UTC)

Yes, but I have never been one before so I am not quite sure what would the expectations would be for me.

My "interests" are still working on getting a consistent set of shields used thoughout the wiki - pretty close to getting this accomplished. My next focus is getting the family tree icons updated to match the shields. A lot of them are similar but not quite the same while others, such as House Reed, have never been updated. Also, a lot of the portraits used are a bit out of date but I doubt you would want to unlock those given the amazing amount of times people want to update the profile pics on the character pages. Finally, we also need to figure out a way to better handle contentious issues such as: Is Jon Snow the head of House Stark? and What is the correct title for Sansa - Lady or Princess? Right now, it is just turns into an edit war, which is creating a tremendous amount of work for everyone involved. I think issues like these should be handled head-on - create some sort of disclaimer at the top of the page, note the controversy and the provisional decision made, with a note saying that information will be updated when it becomes available. Maybe that would tamp down some of these edits back and forth. Just a thought.

Regards Ser Shield McShield (talk) 17:34, July 5, 2016 (UTC)

Basically you start out by working on the small non-controversial stuff; it lets you work on protected pages like family tree templates and infoboxes and such.

...given that Bran and Rickon were called "Princes" in Season 2, I think Sansa is indeed a Princess now, Lady of Winterfell, and as Princess is heiress to Jon as ruler of the new North/Vale/Riverlands kingdom he just made. both "Princess" and "Lady of Winterfell", and I think we shouldn't stress too much over a situation which is in flux like that.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 18:38, July 5, 2016 (UTC)

Sounds good - I am happy to stick to the non-controversial stuff. Regards Ser Shield McShield (talk) 18:41, July 5, 2016 (UTC)

Are you familiar with duties? Do you know how to block vandalism people or anyone else adding gibberish? We give 3 warnings to those who can't properly upload images. Those are under: {ImagePolicyFirstWarning} (except with two brackets) Then 'secondpolicy'.. then 'thirdpolicy', then finally block for 1 month. Vandalism is automatically infinite blocking. Just had an idea. What about making a category for pages that says "Image needs brightening"? I am going through so many, but I'd have a lot of help if people could add that category for me. That way I can brighten (or someone else can), the images so they are better seen. This could be infobox or images in the synopsis.. we'd be able to tell which it is. What do you think? Thanks. QueenBuffy35px-Pink crown.png 23:32, July 10, 2016 (UTC)

I like this idea. I also think we should create a category or a tag on pages that need updating. I have read some pages and thought, "Wow, this page is a mess" but did not have the time to fix it right then and there. Then I forget to go back. Maybe even have a Top 5 list on the home page on pages that need updating - get the rest of the editors to revise pages that don't get a lot of love.

By the way, can you take a look at the City Watch page? I tried to update it recently but Janos Slynt's image is not quite right.

This isn't about providing accurate information to viewers who come to this wikia to get information this is about a small, infererior man trying to feel big somehow. Pal you're nothing. Why isn't this guy on a temporary (or maybe permanent) ban again?

Next time you do TRUST mE you'll WISH you HADN'T. My girlfriend is her so I need to jump off the net. Have a GooD day. CHUmp! 😉

Ser Shield, I think this is a good example of why WillNet31 should be banned. He constantly makes faulty edits which other users (including me) have to undo. He deliberately starts edit wars and when warned by an administrator, he ignores them. When confronted, he threatens administrators and others by saying he bullied people in the past and saying that "you wish you hadn't messaged me". I don't know how you want to deal with this, but I think a temporary ban should be a minimum for him. I'm not looking forward to participate into yet another edit war with him.

Lord Sharky (talk) SharkyBytesz-Personal-Main-Shield.PNG 23:01, July 11, 2016 (UTC)

After his last message to you, I banned him for 99 years. There were several people that have left him cordial messages coaching him along and instead of taking the advice, he started leaving abusive messages in response. I was going to ban him for 1 month but after the messages today, that would have clearly done nothing to change his behavior. His whole thing about being a bully is just really bizarre - so he is warning us that he is going to bully us if he doesn't get his way? Well, that is the best reason I have ever heard to ban someone permanently.

Now let's stop wasting time on this guy.

By chance, do you have access to the Season 2 Blu-ray? I don't but if either of us did, we could knock out Estermont and Errol super quick. Same thing with Grandison. For the rest, what would be our reference?
On a related note, I am trying to revise Tarth's shield based on the offical HBO source but it is drawn with such a worn out look, it is a pain to work with. Plus, I am still only one step up from a beginner user so I've been teaching myself along the way.

Margaery Tyrell

She never faked being part of Faith Militant, the rose given to her grandmother Olenna was indication for her to leave King's Landing because Margaery as always was about 3 steps ahead of Cersei and she knew that she would be up to no good, also I think Margaery would step in like her father when Loras Tyrell had Faith Militant symbol carved on his forehead instead she willingly allowed it (at least a true and loyal Tyrell would). And also this "The Faith and The Crown are the two pillars" and since Margaery is seen with a crown during 2nd half of Season 6 it implies that she is part of Crown as well as Faith Militant. So there was no faking otherwise it would be her, destroying Sept or High Sparrow and Faith instead of Cersei. Ramsay Sworn to Night King 01:56, July 26, 2016 (UTC)

"She never faked being part of Faith Militant..." Sorry but you are the only one that thinks this.

I am not going to get into a discussion about the rest of your paragraph, but wow, I think you're really missing the point multiple times.

I don't mean to be insulting but no, you're just wrong. Sorry.

Regards Ser Shield McShield (talk) 02:04, July 26, 2016 (UTC)

Then explain why was Olenna Tyrell wearing black gown during the finale and just exactly how did she find out that her son and grandchildren have been "KILLED" by "Cersei"?

And no I am not the only one who thinks this.  Ramsay Sworn to Night King 03:34, July 26, 2016 (UTC)

Is English a second language for you? I mean this a non-judgmental question - just some of word choices seem a little off. For example, you said that because Margaery is seen with a crown it "implies" she is part of the Crown. She's the Queen - she and Tommen together are the Crown. There is nothing implied by that. Another example, you use "KILLED" and "Cersei" in quotes - why the unneeded quotes?

In regards to your question about Olenna, you wrote it in such a way that it seems like you are saying that because Olenna is wearing black and knows Cersei killed her family that Margaery was a true believer in the Faith Militant. Is that what you are actually trying to say?

Plus, a lot of the leap of logics in your first paragraph, it just made me think English might not be your first language. If so, not an issue at all, but it would explain why I thought you were wrong on several points.

I used it once on the page for High Septon (before the Riot of King's Landing) and started a discussion about it use in the rest of the wiki on the Talk page but nothing was decided.

I think shields should be reserved for houses so maybe this file for the Faith Militant:

Plus, the added benefit is that these are already created. The list of shields to create is already a mile long.

Thank you...

...for stepping in and offering your two cents with regards to my liitle disagreement with Eko. I understand what Eko is trying to say about Sansa and Baelish rescuing Jon fron certain defeat but to say Jon did nothing makes no sense to me hence the reason for my back and forth with him.--Shaneymike (talk) 18:33, August 5, 2016 (UTC)

Yeah, I had something similar with him - he has a point but then takes it to an extreme conclusion. What you are saying on the Ramsay Bolton article is so not controversial I don't see why he is so adamant you are wrong abd says things like, "You're making Jon like a GOD...". No, you're not - you're just saying Jon played an important role in Ramsay's downfall, which is not a controversial thing to say. Anyway, I'm going to let Gonzalo deal with him at this point since I am doing this at work and my boss is yelling about some deadlines. Haha. Have a good one.

Regards Ser Shield McShield (talk) 19:06, August 5, 2016 (UTC)

Shaneymike clearly expressed that since Jon was fighting the battle of the bastards with Ramsay, that he was the leader, main character and that he himself led a successful battle in order to retake Winterfell. Correct me if I'm wrong but that clearly does not say (even briefly) what really happened. We all know that that Jon fell into Ramsay's traps firsthand and then all his army followed him through into another trap. The only thing Jon did was beat Ramsay to a pulp and give his brother Rickon a burial in the crypt next to his father. Complete recapture of Winterfell was done by HIS forces + Sansa & Littlefinger's massive rescue party (KotV).

I think we all know what would have happened if Littlefinger and Sansa didn't arrive to save their King Jon. Also this battle fails in comparison to the battle of Castle Black that was also led by Jon midway through to the end - to outline what Jon did and what he didn't. I hope with this you can reflect on which battles Jon contributed to decide the outcome and on which he didn't. Ramsay Sworn to Night King 19:18, August 5, 2016 (UTC)

House Bolton family tree

Perhaps you can create a family tree for Boltons where

on the left from Roose line connecting to unnamed miller's wife, to the right line connecting to Unknown Lady Bolton and a line above Roose and going over one of his 2 previous spouses (miller's wife or Unnamed Lady Bolton) and leading to Walda Bolton which could be next to miller's wife or Lady Bolton.

Something like this:

                            |                              |                                        |

                            |                              -------------------                  |

Miller's Wife - - - - - - Roose ------------- Lady Bolton       |      Walda Bolton

                  |                            |                                  |

Sansa--------Ramsay              Domeric            Newborn Bolton

I hear what you're saying but that doesn't follow the standard rules for creating family trees. As you know, family trees have been around for centuries and there are a huge set of rules on how to lay them out. One of these is that the husband is always on the left. Another rule is that mothers of his children are just lined-up next to each other on the right. Unfortunately, this wiki's family tree template does not provide for anything else besides solid and dashed lines. There is a huge set of standard symbols to go along with these lines that helps explain the relationship. For example, for wives that have died, an "x" is placed in the middle of a solid dashed line to let everyone know that she died while married. We don't have that option here at this time.

Anyway, I took a whack at the Bolton family tree because someone added a whole second tree just focused on Wanda and that was definetely not right. I'm going to leave it as-is for now, just because it does follow the rules for family trees and I've got about 100 things on my to-do list right now.

Brightened Image

I have recently added this to our image policy:

  • Dark images need to be categorized with "Image (Brighter image needed)", yet ONLY admin's have the rights to actually brighten the image itself.

Just wanted to give you a heads up, if you see just any user trying to edit the images and tweak them. It could easily get out of hand. There is one user that has helped me and has done a good job. I will give her the opportunity to continue, since I've seen her work and trust her. Anyway, just wanted to past this on. QueenBuffy35px-Pink crown.png 21:21, August 7, 2016 (UTC)

Cool. Good idea. Lily has been doing good.

Agreed, we're really trying to lighten them perfectly. Not too much so that it's obvious, but obvious enough so you can see details and what is going on in the image. lol. QueenBuffy35px-Pink crown.png 03:26, August 8, 2016 (UTC)

Sigil of Astapor

Dany GoodMasters3x03.jpg

In S3E03, when Daenerys speaks with Kraznys mo Nakloz for the first time, there's a flag in the background. It is visually similar to a symbol that appears on one of the warships in S6E08 during the Second Siege of Meereen. Do you think this is the symbol of Astapor as a whole, just the Unsullied, or perhaps Slaver's Bay as a whole? Can it be made into a sigil? It's a shame there aren't that many Essosi sigils available, as they obviously do have national symbols and stuff. I would love to make a sigil myself, but my editing skills are sh**, so I was hoping someone would volunteer. --CrappyScrapCrappyScrap-Shield.PNG 15:13, August 23, 2016 (UTC)

That's a good symbol to use but for who is still an open question. Maybe just for the Good Masters? I haven't read the books so I don't know exactly how each city is ruled - seems like a loose confederation instead of some sort of official alliance. So I would think that would mean each city gets its own symbol BUT given that we are only using one symbol for all of them now, using the one on the banner seems like a good upgrade from the one we are using now.

For the symbol on the ship, was that supposed to be the one for Volantis or all of these city-states?

Anyway, thanks for posting that scene - very good reference to use given we have only two symbols to work from and until you posted that, I thought we only had the symbol on the ship to use.

By chance, have you seen the ship's symbol on any screen captures? I haven't seen it posted anywhere on this wiki and wanted to compare it with the symbol you posted to see the differences.

Regards Ser Shield McShield (talk) 17:02, August 23, 2016 (UTC)

I found this one on Google, and as far as I can see, the symbols are identical.
The Slaver Cities are run by the "masters", but I don't know if they're citystates or connected somehow. Regardless, if the Good Masters have one universal symbol, we might as well make it easy for ourselves and use that as the symbol of the three Slaver Cities.
Just to make sure, I'll rewatch scenes from Yunkai and Meereen and keep an eye out for anything that looks like national symbols.
Best, --CrappyScrapCrappyScrap-Shield.PNG 18:11, August 23, 2016 (UTC)
EDIT: Here's another screenshot I found. --CrappyScrapCrappyScrap-Shield.PNG 18:21, August 23, 2016 (UTC)
Thanks - they all look exactly the same. Now just have to create it.
Regards Ser Shield McShield (talk) 20:51, August 23, 2016 (UTC)
Thanks a bunch! :) So who do you think the sigil represents? If the show confirmed the Slaver Cities were in some sort of confederation, that would be one thing, but... --CrappyScrapCrappyScrap-Shield.PNG 21:39, August 23, 2016 (UTC)
My strongest suspicion is that the sigil is the chained harpy of Meereen and that it initially represents the Wise Masters & their fleets (also being the symbol of old Meereen). When Daenarys displays it for her proclamation, it is a show of solidarity so that she doesn't look like a foreign conquerer. [ Speedit ] ♜ [ contribs ] 03:34, August 31, 2016 (UTC)

Eko is Oke

Sorry to have to bother you with this but I'm having a problem with Eko again. I started a thread in the forum and right off the bat he said it was the most ridiculous thing he's ever read and it just kinda snowballed from there. I'll understand if that reply of mine that I deleted warrants a mini-block if not a permanent ban. At the same time though, I feel that Eko was arrogant, condescending, disrespectful and rude. Like Starcross said, Eko could have just ignored it if he thought it sounded ridiculous. Anyway, sorry to bother you with this. If you feel that me losing my temper with him warrants a block, I will accept your decision. At the same time though, I wish Eko would stop following me around everywhere I go on this wiki. It's starting to creep me out.--Shaneymike (talk) 21:16, August 24, 2016 (UTC)

Ignore Eko. Don't return his insults. Don't get into any back and forths with him. Just ignore him completely. We all know how he acts and that there is zero chance of having a productive conversation with him so don't even make the attempt.

Also, there is no need to drag any others into this either. I don't know if he is purposely goading you into making a mistake in the hopes that it gets you banned or he is just as clueless as he is making himself sound - either way, it's not worth the time trying to figure out what he is doing.

Just wait him out. He is either going to stop contributing because he does not get any reaction from anyone or he is going to do something so egregious that gets him a permament ban. As it is today, he is sucking-up an inordinate amount of time, especially since he has turned into a tattle-tale. No one likes a tattle-tale so don't turn into one yourself. Most likely, he will eventually hang himself with his own rope (metaphorically speaking - not literally).

Sigil of House Hoare

Hi! I was just wondering if I could import the sigil from AWOIAF? While the sigil in the House Hoare article we have does not confirm the colors, the design itself is nearly identical. The lack of heraldry to represent House Hoare has annoyed me for a while. Best, --CrappyScrapCrappyScrap-Shield.PNG 14:26, September 5, 2016 (UTC)

A couple of people have imported it before and it is always quickly removed. So I wouldn't import.

Plus, that design has some issues: the chains should have a circular link in the middle like the Umbers, the grapes should not be angeled, and the shape of the shield will need to be updated.

Regards Ser Shield McShield (talk) 15:52, September 5, 2016 (UTC)

Who decides? You're an admin, right? Besides, I don't think the one from Histories & Lore is intended to be accurate. In any case, can't we just have an interim version until someone feels like changing it, or until it appears with colors on screen?
This is what it would look like (I finally worked out how to add transparency). I'd say it's better than nothing, but I won't upload it unless an admin greenlights it. Best, --CrappyScrapCrappyScrap-Shield.PNG 17:24, September 5, 2016 (UTC)
I agree with SSMcS. If we have an "interim" shield for House Hoare, why not every other house that we don't currently have artwork for? I will create a HH shield eventually... have patience. - Xanderen signature.png 19:41, September 5, 2016 (UTC)

New canonical heraldry

From the new Histories & Lore:

  • House Blount (Tourney at Harrenhal)
  • House Selmy (War of the Ninepenny Kings)

Could you also do House Hoare and House Hightower?--Bovkaffe (talk) 16:50, November 18, 2016 (UTC)

Finally we have a better version of the House Hoare sigil.--Gonzalo84 (talk) 20:18, November 18, 2016 (UTC)
This is great news! Hoare is so complicated of a coat of arms and the previous "best" version was so poor, I have delayed in even starting to work on it.
In the meantime, what would be super helpful is if these new coat of arms are named to include the house's name separate, "Hoare" or "Drumm" so they can be found when searching. For instance, do NOT put "HouseHoare" because if you search for "Hoare", it won't show-up.
I have spent hours looking for some of the previous references and if I am spending hours looking for the references, that's hours not designing them.

Okay I've finished watching all the videos now. New heraldry includes:

  • House Hightower (vastly improved, didn't really have before).

House Manderly family tree

When you have some free time available, can you create a family tree for House Manderly? I tried but I couldn't figure how to make the character pics appear.--Shaneymike (talk) 14:27, November 16, 2016 (UTC)

Is the family tree just Wyman, his wife, and their son Wendel?

Ser Shield McShield (talk) 18:38, November 16, 2016 (UTC)

Yeah. Basically, I tried copying and pasting the text from the House Umber family tree and changing it those three. But when I did that the pictures for Wyman and Wendel wouldn't show.--Shaneymike (talk) 19:13, November 16, 2016 (UTC)

I see your problem. First, you have to make a separate template for each individual. Then you make a separate family tree template using the individual templates while "programming" the lines to connect the individuals. It is a bit of an unweidly system, especially because only straight lines are used and none of the standard family tree symbols are available. But it is what we have to work with.

I'll put together the House Manderly family tree together and see if I can explain it better with a real world example.

Ser Shield McShield (talk) 19:31, November 16, 2016 (UTC)

Thanks. Yeah I kinda figured the part about individual templates but those symbols are tricky buggers.--19:54, November 16, 2016 (UTC)

Did you create the individual templates because I just searched for them and didn't find anything? If the individual templates are already created, that will save some time. So if they are already created, what are the names of the templates?

Ser Shield McShield (talk) 20:03, November 16, 2016 (UTC)

I'm afraid I didn't. :( --Shaneymike (talk) 20:19, November 16, 2016 (UTC)

The House Manderly familytree is now complete. A few things I had to do - create a familytree pic for Wyman and Wendel and created a square for House Manderly. Then created the three individual templates - House Umber was great to just copy and paste - obviously changed the file names to the Manderly ones. Finally, created the House Manderly familytree template using the individual templates and then inserted it in the House Manderly page as well as for the individual pages. Let me know if you have any questions.

Fanwank on Meera Reed article

I just rolled back some obvious fanwank on the Meera Reed article by a newb. I had half a mind to blocking them but I figured that I'd let it slide just this once and see if they did it again. I visited your talk page to read what Dragon had to say and I read your response to Gonzalo when he posted a message about fanwank, and I just thought I'd mention that I'm following a similar policy. Also this morning I took the liberty of protecting the Drogo article because an anonymous user keeps adding Season 7 to the infobox. User:Jumperjumper also did that at least once. I'll double-check to see if they did it more than that.--Shaneymike (talk) 18:55, November 27, 2016 (UTC)

I feel like a lot of anonymous users are just clueless - not malicious - so they shouldn't get banned. I agree with protecting the Drogo article - people are already trying to add spoilers so it's only going to get worse from here on out.

Heraldry aspect ratio

Hi! Quick question: I was just wondering if the aspect ratio 5:6 (or 400 × 480) is the "official" guideline for heraldry on this wiki? Regards, --CrappyScrapCrappyScrap-Shield.PNG 22:16, November 30, 2016 (UTC)

It is sort of official though I haven't told anyone about it. The squares are 400 x 400 and so if the shields are exactly 400 x 480, then the designs look exactly the same when switching between the two. In other words, sometimes I create the square first and then convert into a shield and sometimes the other way around. By making the squares 400 x 400 and the shields exactly 400 x 480, there is zero difference when converting between the two. If not, then my "OCD" kicks in and I notice the very slight difference between the two.

The other thing I have started to do on the shields is make the top and side black borders exactly 4 pixels wide in black. The earlier versions sometimes are 4 are the left and 3 on the right - almost always 3 on the top. As you can see, I am trying to make everything an even number since it makes it easier to divide.

If you want, I can upload the border for the shields that I have been using which is exactly 400 x 480. I can do that when I get home.

Regards Ser Shield McShield (talk) 22:46, November 30, 2016 (UTC)

So I'm not the only one with severe OCD after all ;) I wasn't referring to any shield in general, I was just wondering. Cheers! --CrappyScrapCrappyScrap-Shield.PNG 00:31, December 1, 2016 (UTC)

Beesbury and Estermont

How far along are you with the Beesbury shield? I've actually got one finished already... also what reference were you planning to use for Estermont? I wasn't aware we had a sufficient one yet. - Xanderen signature.png 19:15, December 2, 2016 (UTC)

Oh, I was just starting on Beesbury - glad I mentioned it to you since I'm sure yours will be good.

Estermont - I am using this super-low quality from the Season 2 Blu-Ray "The War of Five Kings" featurette:

War of the Five Kings featurette - Fossoway, Estermont, Caron, Errol and Stannis.JPG

I have a good image of the turtle with his front limbs in the forward position. I will work on this one and then move onto House Errol with the haystack.

Regards Ser Shield McShield (talk) 19:46, December 2, 2016 (UTC)

Is there a clearer version of that image? - Xanderen signature.png 20:05, December 2, 2016 (UTC)
Unfortunately, no. My laptop doesn't play Blu Rays so I had to take a picture of it while on my TV. Ser Shield McShield (talk) 20:12, December 2, 2016 (UTC)
Do you know which feature it's from? I might be able to find a better screencap. - Xanderen signature.png 20:16, December 2, 2016 (UTC)
It's literally called the "The War of Five Kings" - basically, just some narration with maps showing how troops moved around Westeros.
Regards Ser Shield McShield (talk) 21:38, December 2, 2016 (UTC)
I found it... unfortunately we can't really use it as a reference, as it's far too vague and nondescript. How many scutes does the turtle's shell have? Are its eyes open or closed? Is its tongue sticking out? There are too many variables for us to make an official Estermont sigil based on this image alone. - Xanderen signature.png 12:19, December 6, 2016 (UTC)
Well, talk to Gonzalo84 about then. He thought it was good enough of a reference to use: see User_talk:Ser_Shield_McShield#Wanted_sigil for this and Grandison.
Please note I put up the House Grandison shield in August. I have restored back on House Grandison's page since Gonzalo84 previously approved it.
Regards Ser Shield McShield (talk) 17:59, December 6, 2016 (UTC)
I hadn't noticed it before, otherwise I'd have mentioned it sooner... As The Dragon Demands would say "there's more than one way to draw a lion" (a sleeping lion, in this case). Is his tail supposed to be forked, and if so how many forks? Is he yawning? Is one eye open? Claws sheathed or unsheathed? Again, there are simply too many variables for us to justify creating a sigil based on that one very vague reference image. Also, can I ask where the lion on your shield came from? Although we do very occasionally use elements from third parties (mainly A Wiki of Ice and Fire) we only do this in very rare cases, and only ever when it's clear that the show has done the same. 99.9% of the time we should be striving to create the sigils ourselves from scratch. I will talk to Gonzalo about it so there are no more crossed wires. If we start saying that "any old picture" will do then we could theoretically make sigils for all the houses that don't currently have artwork... and that's a slippery slope towards becoming a fan-fiction wiki. - Xanderen signature.png 19:12, December 6, 2016 (UTC)
You might be the only one that has not noticed. As I said, Gonzalo84 previously approved it and The Dragon Demands basically reviews every single update on this page and is more than willing to revert additions not up to his standards AND has not said anything in 4 1/2 months. So are their approvals not good enough for you?
Gonzalo84 and I discussed the quality of the reference months ago. House Grandison is a minor house and this is probably the best version of their coat of arms we are ever going to get. Given how minor the house is and no better version will probably ever be produced by the show itself, we decided to use it as the reference. In no way were we saying, "any old picture" will do - we were just saying, "This will do for House Grandison". It is a case by case process. If you have other poor quality references that you want to discuss, feel free to post them somewhere and ask for input because you dictating whats-good-enough-to-create-shields-out-of is not going to work.
Which brings us to a bigger issue, you know this wiki is a group project, right? Because you're not acting that way. Your response makes it sound like you appointed yourself as some sort of enforcer of whats-good-enough-to-create-shields-out-of, which goes against the spirit of this whole endeavor. I don't think that is what you intended but please dial back your responses - you are not the sole arbitrator, we try to reach at least a loose consensus.
In regards to the design itself, the lion is not from the Wiki of Fire and Ice - feel free to double-check. As you can imagine, there are dozens of heraldic lions available on the internet. I used one as a base and modified it to what seemed appropriate. The colors are the same on House Baratheon's shield - given that both houses are from the same region, they more than likely used the same colors.

Individual templates for Targaryen ancestors

I've started individual templates for the following Targaryen ancestors:

Aegon Targaryen (son of Aenys) - Template:Familytree/Aegon_Targaryen_son_of_Aenys
Rhaena Targaryen (daughter of Aenys) - Template:Familytree/Rhaena Targaryen_daughter_of_Aenys
Rhaenys Targaryen (Queen Who Never Was) - Template:Familytree/Rhaenys_Targaryen_DotD
Laenor Velaryon - Template:Familytree/Laenor Velaryon
Jacaerys Velaryon - Template:Familytree/Jacaerys Velaryon
Lucerys Velaryon - Template:Familytree/Lucerys Velaryon
Joffrey Velaryon - Template:Familytree/Joffrey Velaryon
Helaena Targaryen - Template:Familytree/Helaena Targaryen

When you have a moment, feel free to check and see if I did them right. I took a gander to see about adding Helaena where she would be on the tree but stayed myself because it looked tricky. I'm going to start working on templates for the children of Helaena and Aegon II.--Shaneymike (talk) 03:21, December 3, 2016 (UTC)

And here they are...

Jaehaerys Targaryen (son of Aegon II) - Template:Familytree/PrinceJaehaerysTargaryen
Template:Familytree/Jaehaera Targaryen - Template:Familytree/Jaehaera Targaryen
Maelor Targaryen - Template:Familytree/Maelor_Targaryen

--Shaneymike (talk) 04:22, December 3, 2016 (UTC)

One more...

Corlys Velaryon - Template:Familytree/Corlys_Velaryon

--Shaneymike (talk) 17:50, December 3, 2016 (UTC)

I switched some of them so they have " _ " in them so the names are searchable. For instance, by making it Corlys_Velaryon, the template will show-up if you search for both "Corlys" and "Velaryon" but the only way to find "CorlysVelaryon" is by searching for "CorlysVelaryon".

Also, most of the templates use the _ between names so let's keep it consistent. I did find some other templates that don't use the _ such as "RhaenaTargaryen", which I will eventually change. With all these new enteries, all the House Targaryen familytrees need an update. I started working on it and then realized how much work is involved. So thanks for putting all these templates - this needs to happen before the actually familytrees get revised.

Regards Ser Shield McShield (talk) 01:14, December 5, 2016 (UTC)

All rigthy then, I will use the _ between names next time for consistency. Thanks. --Shaneymike (talk) 01:36, December 5, 2016 (UTC)

House Targaryen CoD template

I rolled back the changes you made to Template:House Targaryen family tree Regency Conquest of Dorne era because TDD did the same with the changes you made to Template:House Targaryen family tree. I hope you understand. --Shaneymike (talk) 04:23, December 5, 2016 (UTC)

No problem. I attempted to jump start the Targaryen family trees being updated because when you read the articles regarding Targaryens, there are a lot more Targaryens mentioned than shown on the family trees. While TDD is buried with real life, we can get the individual templates ready for future use.

One thing I noticed is that some of the pics you used are a bit too big. They need to be cropped and the cropped pics uploaded and then the individual templates updated accordingly. I started using a standard size of 150 x 150. If all of the family tree pics are perfect squares, it should allow all of the pics to line-up on each row of the family tree. Right now, they move up and down depending on the size of the pic. But to switch over all the pics would be a massive undertaking. So I have done this for only a few of the templates - basically, just the Manderlys.

Do you want to start cropping the pics? Plus, you can keep creating new individual templates. So there's a bit of work to do just to prepare for updating the family trees themselves.

Regards Ser Shield McShield (talk) 18:20, December 5, 2016 (UTC)

Sure, I'll try using the standard size of 150 x 150 from here on out. I'll go back and take a look at those templates later when I'm off work.--Shaneymike (talk) 19:10, December 5, 2016 (UTC)

House Targaryen family tree Conquest era

I just tried adding Template:Familytree/Aegon Targaryen son of Aenys and Template:Familytree/Rhaena Targaryen daughter of Aenys but couldn't get it to work. Those family trees are tricky. Shaneymike (talk) 20:35, December 10, 2016 (UTC)

You forgot the " | " after AEGON=Familytree/Aegon Targaryen son of Aenys and RHAENA=Familytree/Rhaena Targaryen daughter of Aenys

Please note I had to remove the brackets so that site won't try to display them.

Regards Ser Shield McShield (talk) 03:42, December 12, 2016 (UTC)

Okay, I fixed that. Now I just need to reestablish Alysanne as Aenys's daughter, Aegon as Aenys's son, and Aegon and Rhaena as spouses. Shaneymike (talk) 04:16, December 12, 2016 (UTC)

Fire and Blood Transcript

Why are you deleting the transcript I am making for Fire and Blood? Just a friendly question, I don't want any fights.

Because we don't have transcripts on this wikia - I believe it runs afoul of copyright rules. Plus, you're deleting out important information on the Fire and Blood page.

Finally, please sign all your messages.

Regards, Admin Ser Shield McShield (talk) 18:37, December 27, 2016 (UTC)

I was just trying to help... Other wikias have Transcripts but this doesn't, what about the copyright rules for those?

RebekahM1412 (talk) 20:46, December 27, 2016 (UTC)

Hmm, well, maybe not a copyright issue. But we don't include them on this wiki - maybe because there are other websites dedicated to transcripts that already have them. So I don't know why you want to spend the time writing out transcripts that are already complete elsewhere - no need to re-invent the wheel, especially since you are deleting needed information from the Fire and Blood page while you attempt to update it.

Check this out:

Quick language survey, for wiki interlink purposes (answer in thread): --The Dragon Demands (talk) 00:41, January 2, 2017 (UTC)

Since we are thinking about have a tabber for the ALL Kingsguard sheilds, we need sigils for all of them and currently, we only have Robert's and Cersei's (which on standby courtesy of Xanderen). So, I wonder if you could make some for these two sigils:

Targaryen's:  (Which is just the Targaryen sigil in black and white.)

I know it's a lot to ask and you must be very busy and we may not even use them, but it would be very appriciated.

No idea why these images aren't showing up, so just go to the Kingsguard image gallery to check.

Just wondering, how are you getting along with this?

I am currently mid-work on a couple other shields that I should finish in a couple of weeks. I am currently renovating part of my apartment so my time after work has been consumed with manual labor.

But check with Xanderen - he might have already started these since he did the other ones already.

Hi, can I just check something with you? Are we too assume the characters in the cast section of "Dragonstone" are official and confirmed? If so, may we add charater appearences (the template) as we have done so for those mentioned in the summary (Dany, Jon, Tyrion ect.)? MedusaandPoseiden (talk) 20:49, July 13, 2017 (UTC)

The cast section is not official and confirmed at this point. It will only be official and confirmed once the episode airs.

Regards, Ser Shield McShield (talk) 20:46, July 14, 2017 (UTC)

Oh, okay. But could you just add Jon and Cersei's to their pages. MedusaandPoseiden (talk) 20:48, July 14, 2017 (UTC)

Also, could you just add to the home page that the next episode is "Dragonstone". MedusaandPoseiden (talk) 21:13, July 14, 2017 (UTC)

Done with adding Season 7 to Cersei's and Jon's pages. I can't update the home page - only Bureaucrats can.

User:Lightning Laxus

Just randomly came across this issue on the Community wiki.
McShield, you're not really coming off as mature here. Per Fandom's article on blocking, under "Common block protocol":
Admins are advised to give a warning to people before blocking them.
This user is at least using a well-reasoned argument (idk if it's accurate or not, but this is obviously not a simple issue), and it seems like you're trying to make things easier for yourself by blocking the user and hoping they don't come back to argue again. They are not a vandal, and at least deserved a warning. You didn't even give them the option of discussing the issue, with no edits to the relevant articles until the discussion is resolved. --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 03:07, August 1, 2017 (UTC)

I get what you are saying. It's just that this issue with the exact same reasoning Laxus brought up was discussed at length over a year ago. So it's not like he is bringing anything new to the discussion and we don't have re-discuss issues over and over again every time somebody new joins the wiki. Plus, a huge part of his reasoning was based on faulty assumptions - namely that Joffrey Baratheon was suffering from Targaryen madness. He really thinks a person with no Targaryen blood suffers from "Targaryen madness"? That doesn't make any sense. Also, he even agrees that the characters exhibit more sociopathic behaviors than psychopathic ones yet he was sure that the characters were born with their mental disorders even though the books talk about how badly they were abused/neglected as children. So again, another faulty assumption. Another assumption he makes is that because only Joffrey exhibits the behavior, it must be based on his genetics not because he was nutured somehow differently from his two siblings - but we all know that siblings don't all turn out the same and there a million reasons why that happens.

Yet based on all these clearly faulty assumptions, he was still so sure that he was right on such an issue that is obviously not simple. I have seen this behavior over and over again - if someone comes in and has a belief that is so strongly held that he can't even ask for feedback on his argument from the Admin that has already reached out to start the discussion, I know that he was starting an edit war. Starting edit wars gets an automatic block - no warnings needed.

But I did leave the ability for him to edit his talk page if he wants to respond.

In the meantime, rest assured, I rarely block this quickly and it's not a permanent block. He will be back soon enough.

Regards, Ser Shield McShield (talk) 03:44, August 1, 2017 (UTC)

... That still doesn't seem right. You seem to be partially justifying the block on "his argument's incorrect," rather than "the editor's not trying to have a reasonable discussion." Idk if his assumptions are faulty (and that's good for me; it allows me to be impartial), but it seems like you're not giving him the chance to rebut your labeling. He only reverted your edits once, and you decide to mark him as a troublemaker, even though he also gave a well-intentioned rebuttal alongside those reverts.
I have seen this behavior over and over again - if someone comes in and has a belief that is so strongly held that he can't even ask for feedback on his argument from the Admin that has already reached out to start the discussion, I know that he was starting an edit war. Why are you assuming that the user is familiar with the finer aspects of wiki etiquette? They didn't just revert wordlessly or with a brief 1-sentence rebuttal; they at least gave a detailed argument in response to your edit. From your behavior, it seems you'll readily block any new editor who reverts a single instance of your edits (once) and makes an (attempted well-thought) argument you disagree with.
Why are you assuming bad-faith on their part solely because they reverted your batch of edits once and made a detailed argument? The very least you can do is at least link them to the relevant prior discussion(s) and not block them for a month. Come on; imagine how long a month without editing would be for you. Idk if you're aware, but wikipedia in general has a three-revert rule of thumb when it comes to determining edit wars, and even then, they recommend 24-hour bans. And I'd assume their admins would give a warning within those 3 reverts, or use the 24-hour ban as the warning itself. A month-long ban without warning the user beforehand is a sign of over-reaction, especially when the user hasn't had any arguments with the admins before. --UltimateKuriboh (talkcontribs) 05:39, August 1, 2017 (UTC)
Your objections are duly noted. Now that Laxus has responded, I will work with him directly on his temp block. By the way, when you said, "Come on; imagine how long a month without editing would be for you", I was blocked for a month when I first started on this wiki - for doing something similar that Laxus did - so I know what it's like. It's not bad.
Regards, Ser Shield McShield (talk) 19:54, August 1, 2017 (UTC)
One other thing, those links to bad-faith and three-revert rule of thumb are to wikipedia. This is wikia, different than wikipedia. Plus, as the three-revert rule of thumb says, it's just a rule of thumb, not a hard rule that can never be breached.

House Stark Update

The "Uncertain Status" of House Stark has been resolved over the last two episodes.

1. The Lord of House Stark is both Sansa & Jon Snow. They both share titles of influence in the North and within the family
  • In the first episode Jon makes Alys Karstark & Lord Umber swear allegiance to House Stark. Which confirms Jon, though not a Stark himself, rules under House Stark banners as King in the North.
  • Sansa attends court as Lady of Winterfell and is a co-ruler of House Stark but not the North - since the position of Lord of Winterfell is the highest in the rank of nobility in the North under King in the North [who has soveriegnty]. This explains why Sansa was able to speak on the politics of the Kingdom of the North and chosen as Regent in Jon's absence; unlike the vassal Houses. This was confirmed in The Spoils of War; the guards refer to Sansa as 'lady of winterfell' when asked who is in charge if Jon, The King in The North, is absent.
2.Arya is the heir to House Stark
  • Arya is next in line to Sansa Stark as heir to the Lordship of Winterfell. If Jon dies Sansa will take over as Lord of House Stark [principal house in the North] due to being the current Lord of Winterfell and become Queen in the North [if they remain an independent kingdom upon Jon death]; Arya will be heir to the either way.

Jon Snow Update

Hey. I'm waiting for the Jon Snow page to be updated. Do you know the rest of his story in Season 7? Not spoilers, the released episodes involving Jon's latest story. About how he shows Dany the cave, then advises her on not attacking castles, confronting Theon, petting a Dragon, etc. You probably know the rest of the story, so why hasn't Jon Snow been updated by the most trusted Admins and editors, besides of not changing his allegance to House Targaryen which hasn't been confirmed yet? Commando4114 (talk) 21:15, August 16, 2017 (UTC)

The lack of updates on Jon's page, well, we admins have planned to revamp his entire page - it's a bit of a mess - but haven't gotten to it because of all of the ordinary updates that all of admins have been policing. For example, I just noticed that House Arryn's page has been updated with all of the formatting striped out. Ugh - with all of the edits that have been made since then, I can't just revert it back to a "good" version. Instead, I have to put all of the formatting back manually.

Anyway, short answer is Jon's page hasn't been updated because of a lack of time compounded by the idea of doing a total overhaul of the entire page. We should probably drop the overhaul for now and just add in this season's info for the time being.

User Block

That one user who gave the spoiler, I really think it wasn't malicious on his part. Do you think we should lower the block to maybe 1 week? I don't know, I really felt he was sorry for what he did...but it's your call since you made the initial block. QueenBuffy35px-Pink crown.png 00:40, August 19, 2017 (UTC)

Stevron Frey

I changed his status because Dragon did the same for Waldron Frey. See here. Furthermore, for all we know Stevron could have died the way he did in the books, which is why i think it should be left uncertain. Shaneymike (talk) 02:03, August 22, 2017 (UTC)

I saw that but Waldron is a kid while Stevron is the oldest of Walder's sons. There is no way Stevron is still alive given he already is dead in the books and that Arya made sure every Frey man was poisoned. The only thing uncertain is when he died but that doesn't mean his status is uncertain. So that's why I changed it back to deceased.

Ser Shield McShield (talk) 02:10, August 22, 2017 (UTC)

I hear what you're saying about Stevron most likely being dead but seeing as how we don't actually know when he died like you said, and his death hasn't actually been confirmed as Harald Katstark's was in Dragonstone (episode), I still think his status should be left as uncertain. But I'll wait and see if the other mods agree before i change it back.Shaneymike (talk) 02:26, August 22, 2017 (UTC)

Well, by that logic, then you would have to be put Uncertain for every other Frey man yet we know at least 30 of them are dead. And it's not like the show is going to wrap this up neatly - the writers are more than willing to leave huge storylines dangling illogically.

Ser Shield McShield (talk) 02:43, August 22, 2017 (UTC)

I am aware of the issue with Frey males being "uncertain", this will be a major cleanup task which will be directly addressed post-Season 7 when we go into review mode. It's on the to-do list.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 03:08, August 22, 2017 (UTC)

Robert's Targ connection on the show

Petyr Baelish: "Nobody knew Robert Baratheon either, yet he claimed the right to sit on the Iron Throne."
Varys: "He had Targaryen blood, through his mother."
— Baelish and Varys[src]

Shaneymike (talk) 21:53, September 7, 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing out the source. I just read the transcript and follow-up Note about this specific issue.  I am still skeptical that is officially the position of the show. It doesn't seem right that Robert would hate his own mother's family so much. Grandmother is a little more believable and it looks like his grandmother might be the actual Targaryen since Robert's mother has been positively identified in the show.

Anyway, another loose end this show will never tie-up.

Ser Shield McShield (talk) 22:51, September 7, 2017 (UTC) their omission of Betha Blackwood and Jaehaerys II. Shaneymike (talk) 23:33, September 7, 2017 (UTC)

The annoying thing is that the Histories & Lore could have easily said "grandmother" instead of "mother" and it would have matched-up with the books closely enough that it wouldn't conflict with already established facts in the show itself. I wish I could be some sort of script fact checker for this show just to catch stuff like this.

'Fair use' Notices

Hi there... I got a notification that you'd added a 'fair use' note against each of three images I'd uploaded to the GoT wiki, here:; here:; and here:

Just to let you know that only the first of these is from GoT: the two images labelled "Into Great Silence" are in fact screen grabs taken from /that/ movie (disk 1, timestamp 29'01" and 41'18"), to illustrate the point made here: , i.e. the similarities in content and compositon etc. between the film and the TV episode for that scene.

I'm not sure what the correct form of words is for these 'fair use' notices when they're not related to HBO - but happy to help out if you need to update them.

And thanks for adding the notices - I hadn't realised it was necessary. Cheers, M. Mpatricke (talk) 03:54, December 14, 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing it out that two of the images are not from GOT. Those scenes from Into Great Silence are so similar that I didn't even notice that they were not from GOT.

I went ahead and changed the licensing info for those two screen grabs since they are not from GOT and included a description noting what film these screen grabs are from and why they are included on this wikia.

Lord Paramount of the North

Hey, sorry about that recent edit of mine. All I wanted to do was change "Lord Paramount Of The North" to "Lord Paramount of the North," but I must've been in the revision history when I began editing, prompting all of those old reverted edits to reapper. Sorry! — Darth Dracarys (talk) 20:59, February 6, 2018 (UTC) Thanks for the note. I was wondering why you wanted all of the those changes. Regards, Ser Shield McShield (talk) 21:22, February 6, 2018 (UTC)

I see that you've reverted my edit. I was meaning to add the Mother attribute to Eddard Stark. Wikipedia lists Lyarra Stark as the mother and you can find the name in the family tree at the bottom of the page as well. Is there any reason why Lyarra Stark is not displayed in the infobox?

Thank you!

Lunadespierta (talk) 00:00, February 16, 2018 (UTC)

Because she has not been introduced in the show. Wikipedia is not Wikia so not relevant. The family tree lists her because she got added at the very beginning along with Rickard Stark because people assumed she would get mentioned sometime and weirdly, she hasn't been.

Error on GoT Wiki - Direwolves

Tried reporting an error on the Wiki about Direwolves but the Wiki deleted my report saying that the page doesn't exist when in fact it does.

On that page under "Range" this is shown:

"When Eddard Stark travels South to King's Landing to serve as Hand of the King, he brings his daughters Sansa and Arya along with their pet Direwolves, Lady and Nymeria. These are the first Direwolves to be seen so far south in hundreds of years. After Nymeria attacks Prince Joffrey, Arya drives her away to escape execution for attacking the Prince; in her place, Lady is killed by Lord Eddard on the command of Robert. Nymeria has been traveling the Riverlands ever since where she leads a pack of gray wolves."

As shown in Season 1 Episode 2, It is at Winterfel that Joffrey is attacked by Nymeria. Later Arya drives Nymeria away to escape execution. But Lady is killed instead at Winterfel by Eddard Stark. The only Direwolf that was seen in the South by anyone was during the War between the Lannisters & Starks, Robb's Greywind, and even they didn't make it to King's Landing as both Robb & Greywind were kill in the Riverland's territory.

As far as anyone from the South seeing any of the Direwolves, mostly those that came to Winterfel with Robert Baratheon. King's Landing itself never saw a single direwolf, even Ghost was left behind at Winterfel when John went to King's Landing to show off the undead minion they captured.

Locked Pages & Renly's Video

Hi, thank you for your welcome message. I wanted to ask a couple of things, the first about some character pages which have been locked for editing. I have been adding information to the relationships sections of some character pages, including Missandei, Loras, Catelyn and Lyanna, with links to the pages where their romantic relationships are talked about. I wanted to add similar links to Renly's page for his relationship with Loras, and to Grey Worm's for his relationship with Missandei, but they are both locked for editing. Is this permanent or temporary, and will it be possible to edit them in the future?

The second issue I mentioned in the Talk section of Renly's page, but thought it was worth asking about here as well. The headline video for his character is a theory which, while not impossible, is not really backed up with evidence in the show. The video argues that Olenna was the reason that Loras urged Renly to be king, when she actually said on the show, in private conversation with Margaery, that she never wanted Renly to be king at all. So I am surprised that this theory, along with the bold headline about House Tyrell killing Renly, would be the top video on his page, and the page being locked for editing means no-one is able to challenge this choice. It feels like the video would be better suited to a page which discussed alternative theories; having it so prominent on Renly's character page makes it seem like it is an established fact, rather than one possible interpretation. Is there a diplomatic way to raise disagreements about choices that have been made on the wiki with the inclusion of some kinds of material? I don't want to upset anyone, I just feel there a good argument against the video being in that specific place, given that it contradicts what was said on the show. Iseult1 (talk) 23:11, February 22, 2018 (UTC)

Both pages are now unlocked.

Your question regarding Renly's video page is answered on that Talk page.

Jon Snow's Age

Hello. I am just wondering to know if Jon snow's age is correct because he was born in 281 AC in the show and season 7 is happening in 304 AC (i could be wrong) so shouldn't he be 23 instead of 22?

Will4race (talk) 20:50, March 6, 2018 (UTC)

Please see reference note #1 on Jon's page. The writers of the show have consistently been inconsistent about ages and time elapsed on the show so all ages are approximate at this point with no way to really figure it out exactly.

Hello Ser Shield McSheild, thanks again for your kind message you left on my wall a few months back, but I was wondering as a more experienced editor if you could maybe lift the protections off the pages of Jojen Reed and Maggy the Frog, as this unables me to write new sub-sections on their magical abilities in detail. As you can see I added magical abilities sections to characters who use magic in the show, if you could respond and help me that would be brilliant. Thank you RedWizard98 (talk) 00:39, May 17, 2018 (UTC)

Whoops sorry just realised none of these pages are protected any more, so I can now edit them with ease. Good luck editing regardless. RedWizard98 (talk) 00:55, May 17, 2018 (UTC)

House Connington's Coat of Arms

The coat of arms being described and house motto are from the German version of the show, so I just editted the Connington coat of arms from the other language versions of GoT wikis to fit the description more; " Zwei konkurrierende Greife, gespalten in rot und weiß" ---> " Two combatant griffins, counterchanged, on a red and white field "

and translated the German motto into English, "Ein grimmiger Feind, ein treuer Freund" ---> " A Fierce Foe, A Faithful Friend "

If I am at all wrong with anything to do with my edit(s) please let me know as I'd hate to add incorrect information

Thegoatsy (talk) 10:41, August 7, 2018 (UTC)

Histories & Lore Season 7: " The Hand of the King " shows Jon Connington with the sigil of house Connington on his tunic, though it is difficult to see, I tried to edit a used sigil of house connington from the German wiki to match closer to what is shown in that episode.

I will be on holiday from the 12th to the 26th, so I won't be able to talk with you between those dates.

Thanks as always Thegoatsy (talk) 13:02, August 9, 2018 (UTC)

There is some interesting information in the character biographies on the in-episode guides of the blu-rays, but there are a few points in them that haven't been mentioned within the show itself, just on these blu-ray guides. I was unsure whether or not they could be cited in an article on here, given that they haven't been mentioned directly on the show, but at the same time they have been included on official show material. If I wanted to cite something that had been mentioned in a blu-ray guide but not within an episode itself, would that be something that could be included on the wiki?

Iseult1 (talk) 18:27, August 11, 2018 (UTC)Iseult1

...I don't think the Connington arms are in the German version of the show? They'd need to appear on screen somewhere - if they're in a Blu-ray menu screencap them.

If information appears only in a Blu-ray menu....add it to the "Notes" section of an article with citation, and we'll figure out what to do with it.--The Dragon Demands (talk) 18:31, August 11, 2018 (UTC)

LastFourHandsOfTheMadKing H&L TheHandOfTheKing.png

Here is screencap of the relevant section of The Hand of the King that has House Connington's coat of arms. Even though it is a bit difficult to see, to me, it is complete enough to include on this site. It even looks like the German version and Histories & Lore are exactly the same.

Hello! Not super sure on how this site works just yet, but please hear me out.  I'm quite late to the game to begin watching the show and I just watched it all in the last few weeks.  The page for Jon Snow is quite literally the first thing that pops up on google when simply searching his name.  Thus, from basically super early on in the show I had his heritage spoiler in my face while reading literally the first sentence about him.  Kind of a bummer, with season 8 approaching, im sure the show will gain many new viewers like myself.  Please consider adding some sort of spoiler warning or rewording the "Jon Snow" page so that people know that there are spoilers within the key information about him.  I'd be happy to help in any way I can, but that page is locked, and again I'm super new to this site and it's format.  Critterdude542 (talk) 01:34, December 29, 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the message. This wiki has been wrestling with this issue for quite some time and frankly, there doesn't seem to be a good solution to the problem since everyone already caught-up on the show may want the exact info that is a spoiler to those just getting started. In short, we have not figured out a way to update the site in such a way that only reveals spoilers if a reader so chooses because it's not just a one season issue but for all 8 seasons. So every fact would need to somehow be coded per season (if not each episode) and the reader would click on how far they wanted to see. That's a difficult solution to code and would require a re-writing of every major character, which is a daunting task. With all that said, we do hear your complaint.

Baratheon Military

Hey I'm just curious as to how many troops Renly Baratheon could field himself average. Without any Tyrell support that is.

Ragnockae136 (talk) 01:47, January 8, 2019 (UTC)

Very trivial message but

I misunderstood the edits on Kurleket, so I wrote "just put 'Ser Willis Wode' back" in the summary instead of "just remove". Sorry if I bothered you by leaving such a trivial message :P

Oh as long as I'm leaving a message, here's a more significant issue: Sansa-Jon-S8-Promo.png was accidentally named so. It should really be Daenerys instead of Sansa. Do you have the perms to move it? ProtectorOfTheSevenKingdoms (talk) 23:53, January 7, 2019 (UTC)

I renamed the file.

Page/Template locking

So I have noticed that this Fandom has a lot of wired locking. For instance on the family tree one of Ned Starks templates is locked but no the other, but Robb Stark is not. Today I found out that the featured article(Witch I made an edit adding a frame to the image) is not locked nor is the poll. But for some reason the Poll archive is locked. Then you have locked some off the templates that use the navbox, like house Bealish but not House Baratheon or Arryn. For some reason the Navbox template it's self isn't locked nor is the House Navbox witch controls all the House navboxes. You should probably lock some of those pages. This is the current poll: Current Poll.

Captured wight

I noticed your revert to the heraldry of the captured wight. The heraldry is obviously to the Night King, but I guess the White Walkers don't actually have a "shield".

Also, I left a message on a talk page inquiring if the term "wight" has ever been used in the tv series. Any insight on that? Ser Eric of Arbor (talk) 05:46, February 12, 2019 (UTC)

The White Walkers don't have a specific heraldry so none is used.
I saw your question and once you asked it, I realized I don't think I've ever heard it said in the show. I don't have a good answer to your question yet but I'm going to keep an eye out in the future in case I come across an example.
Ser Shield McShield (talk) 19:45, February 13, 2019 (UTC)
I assume the term is canon in the series, if only by "Word of God". It would be interesting to find out if it's ever been used by a character, I've just only heard "army of the dead". Ser Eric of Arbor (talk) 20:00, February 13, 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for the tip. Could you possibly update Jon Snow's age for Season 8 and change his image as per the newly released Season 8 images (you'll probably need to crop it; it's quite squareish...)? Thanks.

ABCXYZ12345678 (talk) 22:35, February 13, 2019 (UTC)

I updated the age but I don't think the new image is a good one for the profile - he is too sideways.

Gregor's name is misspelled on the castportal, so it links incorrectly. Just thought I'd point that out. — Ser Eric of Arbor (talk) 19:24, February 17, 2019 (UTC)

Now fixed. Thanks for pointing that out. Ser Shield McShield (talk) 19:44, February 17, 2019 (UTC)

Testing a featured countdown to the season premiere in your Discussions

Hey Ser Shield McShield,

Since the wiki's two active bureaucrats The Dragon Demands and Greater good haven't been around to respond yet, I'm messaging you and two of the other recently active admins here on the wiki. We'd love to hear this community's thoughts so we can get this started as soon as possible, so I hope you can forgive me for being so pushy and leaving you all messages! Please see if you can discuss this with the other admins, if they're around and see what you think.

The question at hand is whether this community would like to help us test a new post type for Discussions: A featured countdown at the top of your Discussions to the season's premiere. This will be tied in with our new landing page experiment, Community Feeds.

Please find details on this on The Dragon Demands' user page.

The sooner we can discuss this with you all, the sooner the test could start, which we hope will help all Game of Thrones fans who are super excited for these new epic episodes! Mira Laime  (help forum | blog) 00:07, February 22, 2019 (UTC)

I definetely want a countdown for Discussions. I actually want the countdown on all the pages but if that is not possible, at least the home page as well. I say just go for it since if anyone really objected, they would have said so by now. Plus, if it was really so horrible (I can't imagine how it could be), then it could be removed, right? So do it and let's see what happens.

Regards, Ser Shield McShield (talk) 01:10, February 22, 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for your response! The countdown post wouldn't actually show on article pages, just at the top of the Community Feed, which we'd enable to replace Discussions on mobile. On desktop, it's an alternative landing page to the wiki's main page that users can set to be the page they land on when they visit the wiki! So any user who wants to see the countdown every time they enter the wiki can do so, it just requires an extra step: They need to choose "Community Feed" as their landing page preference.
I agree that this can't really do any harm. Nothing will be lost on the wiki if we try this out here, but we could potentially do a much better job at catching all the excitement for the season premiere in one place! If I don't hear strong objections from any of the other admins by next week, we'll go on ahead with the test, and will keep you posted on when you can expect to see the changes. Mira Laime  (help forum | blog) 01:02, February 23, 2019 (UTC)
I'm new here, but I'm very familiar with Wikia/Fandom. I think this would be an excellent feature to have on the Main Page, as well as WikiActivity. — Ser Eric of Arbor (talk) 07:08, February 23, 2019 (UTC)

Could you please update this page with the new season? Thank you if you would. — Ser Eric of Arbor (talk) 01:54, March 6, 2019 (UTC)

Not quite yet. These are the "official" descriptions of each episode and come with a corresponding picture none of which have been released yet but should be very soon, maybe even this week.

Season 8 support

Hey, I’m Brandon from Fandom. I’m hoping to talk with you and all the other active admins about some ideas we have for how we can support Game of Thrones Wiki during Season 8. Do you mind if I include you on an email with the rest of the admins to send you some of those ideas? If so does the email address in your account work best? - Brandon Rhea(talk) 20:17, April 9, 2019 (UTC)

Sounds good. The email address in my account works best. Ser Shield McShield (talk) 20:44, April 9, 2019 (UTC)

Gallery vs Image Galleries

Just a heads up as I clean up the galleries. Image galleries such as "Gallery: Jon Snow" needs to be categorized with Image Galleries (and Gallery if you wish) only. Other categorized pages, like "Category:Image of Object" need only "Gallery and Images", not "Image Galleries" Since it isn't a gallery like the "Gallery: Samwell Tarly" pages. - You will see ALL categories still here, so this change won't change too much. If you look at "" You will now see that only the character and episode Image Galleries should be there. This just organizes it better. I've made the chances to the upload image rules for the Wiki. Let me know if this was too confusing or if you have questions. :) Now then, back to editing. QueenBuffy35px-Pink crown.png 16:03, April 16, 2019 (UTC)

I'd say let's try with just 2 pages for now and see how it goes. Maybe Jaime's page, and Arya's page.... then see how that goes. Definitely keep "Winterfell (episode)" locked, as TheDragonDemands is working on it. :) QueenBuffy35px-Pink crown.png 23:02, April 16, 2019 (UTC)

OK. I also did Brienne, Davos and Melisandre since they had very little to do in S8E1 so there shouldn't be much to look after. I released Sam as well because it had been quickly written so I did a revision but it needs a bit more work.
Sansa, Tyrion, Bran and Jorah have zero updates but Daenarys and Jon got big updates but both could use some editing as they are both pretty long enteries.

Questions about reverted edits

Hello there, I could not help but notice that you have reverted some of my edits on both Petyr Baelish and Jorah Mormont, without giving any reason as to why. Those edits re-wrote their personality section in the past participle, as both characters are deceased. I find it confusing therefore, that you would revert such edits without stating a reason, as when writing about anyone in any source, all deceased individuals are supposed to be written in the past tense, as they are no longer alive. I have read the policy page on this wikia to try and find some information on writing policy explaining any possible tense rules, but if there is a unique rule on this wikia that declares all articles must be written in the present tense, for all characters, dead or alive, I would like to know so I can be properly informed. But oddly enough, many characters who have long been dead, such as Joffrey and Ned Stark, are all written in the past participle, so understandably I am quite confused with the lack of clarity. Thank you. RedWizard98 (talk) 15:59, May 5, 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for replying to my message. I very much agree, that this Wiki's tense policy should be properly discussed once the main series have finished airing, for better clarity. Although if I have to disagree with one thing, I do not think everyone will die. Good night. RedWizard98 (talk) 23:56, May 5, 2019 (UTC)

Season 8 Histories & Lore

Hey there, I hope you're well. I was wondering if you would be able to add the following pages to the Histories & Lore template:

Thank-you! — Darth Dracarys (talk) 12:27, October 5, 2019 (UTC)

Can you create a second Greyjoy Rebellion? It's weird that there is a second one but the first one and the second one cannot be combined into one entry even if they have the same name. I suspect that this second one will get a name change or something like "Part 2" by the time it is actually released to differentiate it from the first one.

Ser Shield McShield (talk) 23:19, October 7, 2019 (UTC)

Sorry for combining the two, I was only following the layout of "Robert's Rebellion (Histories & Lore)". — Darth Dracarys (talk) 05:01, October 9, 2019 (UTC)

I've wondered about the Robert's Rebellion one for a while. Imo it should be split by season. They're different featurettes with the same title. --Potsk (talk) 05:08, October 9, 2019 (UTC)
Good point about Robert's Rebellion and now that I see that, I have a feeling that Greyjoy Rebellion will get a similar treatment. Since we have less than 2 months to go before the release, let's just leave everything for now and update as needed once we can actually watch it. Uncategorized pages

Hi Ser Shield McShield, you recently undid my edit to Request for Bureaucratship/Greater Good. Here is the diff. Your edit summary states "That is not what that category is for." I added the category because it was the only uncategorized page on the wiki as catalogued at Special:Community. As per Help:Category at Fandom's Community central we should aim to categorize all pages except our main page. The description of Category:Site administration, the category I used, is "Content regarding the administration of this site." I could not find a more appropriate category but would happily use another one if you can suggest one? --Opark 77 (talk) 11:22, July 25, 2020 (UTC)

The site administration category is for actual site administration functions, not requests to become site administrators. You can see that since Greater Good's request would be the only request included in site administration category while there have been dozens of similar requests over the years and none of them have been added to the category.

Feel free to start a new category if you really think this should be categorized. Consideirng none of the earlier requests have been categorized, I'm not sure it's worth the time.

Ser Shield McShield (talk) 17:49, July 26, 2020 (UTC)

Can you link to one of the other requests your refer to please?--Opark 77 (talk) 22:02, July 26, 2020 (UTC)

I'm not going to spend the time finding them. Ser Shield McShield (talk) 18:23, July 27, 2020 (UTC)

Undo revision of Dracarys

Hello, I don't know why you undid my edit, but I improved this wiki, because "Dracarys" is a mistake and the true word is "Drakarys" (here's the proof : I don't know what else to tell you, sorry

LeLégendaireYT (talk) 11:15, August 31, 2020 (UTC)

"Dracarys" is used on this wiki instead of "drakarys" because the show itself uses "dracarys" including on its closed capitioning so we follow what the show uses even if it conflicts with other sources including the original source. It is similar to the differences between the show and the book - whatever the show does is considered "correct". Plus, "dracarys" has become the preferred spelling among the wider world so it looks like the wrong spelling caught-on among the public. I guess that is kind of like how the spelling of words change over time in the real world. Finally, if you wanted to make the change, you need to change every single use of it - not just in one spot. There needs to be a consistent spelling throughout the wiki. But don't change it again because the show uses "dracarys" so any changes from that will be undone.
Regards, Ser Shield McShield (talk) 00:04, September 1, 2020 (UTC)
Well, from this perspective, I understand. LeLégendaireYT (talk) 05:16, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

Renly and Loras relationship page is missing from Google Search

I know this is about Google's listing of the site rather than any fault of this site itself, but I was wondering if you had heard anything about something I recently noticed on there. I discovered that the Renly Baratheon and Loras Tyrell relationship page on this wiki no longer seems to show up on Google Search results, at least if you are searching from Europe. It used to be one of the top results for searches on this subject. What seems really odd is that it seems to be the only relationship page on the Wiki that has vanished from Google: searching for any other couple will bring up a link to their page on here within the first page of results. It feels very troubling that the only couple that does not appear happens to be a same-sex couple. I am wondering if someone has contacted Google to have it removed from search results for homophobic censorship reasons, because I can't see why it would suddenly disappear from their search engine otherwise, especially as this hasn't been the case for any other relationship pages. I noticed that when you search for "renly baratheon and loras tyrell" that a sign comes up at the end of the page saying "Some results may have been removed under data protection law in Europe", but I don't see how data protection would just apply to this page and none of the others from the wiki. I wanted to ask if you or any user outside Europe would be able to search and see if this still shows up on Google elsewhere. I have sent feedback to Google about this but didn't know what other steps to take.

Iseult1 (talk) 22:50, September 2, 2020 (UTC)

I Googled it on my end here in the USA and did not find it either. I don't think it is missing because of the content of the page but because all of the pages of this website recently migrated to a new system and I think that means all of the pages have to be re-indexed by Google. So maybe it is just a matter of time before it reappears. But I am just guessing at this point. This is a weird issue.

Ser Shield McShield (talk) 01:02, September 5, 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for checking it out, I appreciate it. Hopefully this is just a temporary thing due to the indexing of the new system and not a sign of any kind of censorship by Google. I will search again in a few weeks and see if the page appears after some time has gone by.

Iseult1 (talk) 15:44, September 7, 2020 (UTC)

An update to say that I searched on Google today and found that the page is now appearing again, so whatever caused the earlier disappearance, it seems it has now been resolved.

Good to hear.

House of the Dragon

Now that we're starting to get casting announcements for House of the Dragon I think we should make some decisions about how to format articles on these characters going forward.

Personally, I feel we shouldn't spoil future events and character fates that have been revealed in Martin's writings, just as we didn't spoil the books when Game of Thrones was airing. Specifically regarding the "In the books" sections - they would be kept concise and general until certain key moments had passed (the Red Wedding, for example) at which point we would expand them and elaborate further.

Of course, most people will be aware that this show takes place centuries before GoT, and that all these people are dead in the current timeline... However casual fans shouldn't come on here and immediately have the fate of their favourite characters spoiled seven seasons early (SHE GETS EATEN BY A DRAGON!). We can achieve by this by dividing the "vital status" categories into subsets, just as we did with the various different cast members - characters from HotD will be treated as alive in their timeline until they die on screen, and articles on confirmed characters would be scaled back until such time when it's appropriate to update.

This I think, would be the simplest, cleanest way of going forward, and. This will be the fairest to all fans, including those who are less familiar with the world of Ice and Fire.

What do you think? - Xanderen signature.png 08:59, October 14, 2020 (UTC)

I completely agree. This wiki shouldn't be a bunch of spoilers when the show starts.

UCP migration upcoming

Hey again! As you've probably noticed from the top banner on the wiki, Game of Thrones Wiki will be migrated to the Unified Community Platform soon. I'll be checking in to ensure the migration goes smoothly. If there are any issues after the migration, please let me know and we can get it resolved. So far the migrations have been pretty smooth with some cleanup.

Let me know if you have any questions!

How's everything else been going around here?

Thanks for doing that. Much appreciated. Ser Shield McShield (talk) 00:20, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Re: Family Trees and Scrolling Back and Forth

This is an odd one. Sometimes when I load the page, the family tree will scroll, and sometimes it won't. I haven't been able to pin it down though. – KylaraE  (talk) 06:44, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

OK. At least you confirmed it is happening (so not just happening to me) and it really is an odd issue. I'm out of ideas on how to fix. Thanks Ser Shield McShield (talk) 21:15, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

What's going on?

Is the wikipedia under botnet attack? Is any action of administrators required? Moonracer (talk) 11:19, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

No. I asked that "File:Placeholder" be replaced with "File:Placeholder_other.png" because Placeholder without any file type leads to it registering as a broken link. That problem has now been fixed. Ser Shield McShield (talk) 20:11, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Darth Dracarys

I would like to nominate Darth Dracarys to join the admin team here. They've been editing the wiki for as long as I can remember, has over 12,000 edits, and has never caused the slightest concern in their editing as far as I can tell. They're eminently capable, and tirelessly assisted me during the recategorization of the wiki. I think it's time they received the recognition they deserve. What do you think? - Xanderen signature.png 16:48, 1 January 2021 (UTC)

I agree. Please promote. Ser Shield McShield (talk) 00:47, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

Baratheon King's Landing shield

No. The stag & lion version of the shield did not appear until season 2, the main crowned stag on gold being used in season 1. This is the same as in the books, where it's specifically noted that the stag & lion is Joffrey's personal coat of arms. --Potsk (talk) 08:26, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

HBO's Viewer Guide labels this as the shield for House Baratheon of King's Landing, not just the personal sigil for Joffrey. So that is how this wiki uses it. Plus, it was used for Tommen so this is just another difference between the show and the books. Regards Ser Shield McShield (talk) 22:21, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
The Viewer's Guide shows the crowned stag from episodes 1 to 6 until You Win or You Die (Robert's death), when it is changed to the stag-and-lion. There are absolutely zero sources stating or suggesting that Robert used this heraldry. Yes it was used for Tommen as well, that's the same as in the books also. But not Robert. --Potsk (talk) 07:02, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
If neither you nor a mediator responds by the 26th I'm reverting. A discussion about such a non-issue shouldn't last a whole week. --Potsk (talk) 08:15, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
The article for House Baratheon of King's Landing indicates that the crowned stag was the sigil of the house prior to Joffrey's ascension. (i.e. during Robert's reign) With this, I believe the best course of action would be to keep Robert's heraldry to just the crowned stag, perhaps with one linking to House Baratheon and the other linking to House Baratheon of King's Landing, as well as Cersei's heraldry as the lion of Lannister and crowned stag of Baratheon once again linking to the King's Landing branch. I am aware that Robert's affiliation is depicted as Joffrey/Myrcella/Tommen's heraldry in "You Win or You Die"'s viewers guide, however I believe this is because this is the episode wherein Joffrey ascends to the throne, therefore his heraldry takes precedence as the head of the house. I just want to point out that the proper sigils for all of the Baratheons has been discussed ad nauseam for over 5 years now so Potsk showing-up last and demanding changes on his deadline is a bit much. Plus, Potsk, are you unaware I am a content moderator? In other words, I am one of those who mediate these disputes. With all that said, I'm OK with Darth's solution since Cersei never used House Baratheon of King's Landing's sigil when she had the chance when she was ruling. That was not part of earlier discussions since it had not happened yet. Regards, Admin Ser Shield McShield (talk) 22:45, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
