- "Then another son, Haegon, crowned by Bittersteel, another legitimized bastard who had founded the Golden Company to support the Blackfyre claim."
- ―Varys
The Third Blackfyre Rebellion was an invasion of Westeros by the forces of House Blackfyre and the Golden Company during the reign of Aerys I Targaryen. House Targaryen emerged victorious, and the pretender Haegon Blackfyre was executed. The captain of the Golden Company, Aegor Rivers, would survive to crown Haegon's son Daemon III and launch yet another invasion.[1]
In the books
As detailed in The World of Ice & Fire, Aegor crowned Haegon after the death of Daemon II Blackfyre in captivity. The subsequent invasion in 219 AC was met with fierce resistance from the king's brother, Prince Maekar, along with the prince's two sons Aerion and Aegon. In the final battle of the war, Brynden Rivers dishonorably killed Haegon after he had surrendered. Aegor was then taken captive, after which King Aerys ordered that he would be sent to the Night's Watch. While on his way to Eastwatch-by-the-Sea, his ship was captured by Blackfyre supporters, who freed him and allowed him to return to Tyrosh. In less than a year, Aegor crowned Daemon III, and 17 years later launched the Fourth Blackfyre Rebellion.
