The Doom consumed it all alike, and neither of them turned[1] is a lyric from a song about the Doom of Valyria.
History[]
Game of Thrones: Season 5[]
While sailing on the Smoking Sea, Tyrion and Jorah recite lyrics from the song.[1]
Lyrics[]
They held each other close and turned their backs upon the end.
The hills that split asunder and the black that ate the skies;
The flames that shot so high and hot that even dragons burned;
Would never be the final sights that fell upon their eyes.
A fly upon the wall, the waves the sea wind whipped and churned;
The city of a thousand years, and all that men had learned;
The Doom consumed it all alike, and neither of them turned.
In the books[]
In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, a Tyroshi singer named Collio Quaynis sings an unnamed ballad in High Valyrian about two lovers dying in the Doom of Valyria at the Purple Wedding.
