Historical Inspiration for the Iron Bank of Braavos[]
I think the direct basis for the Iron Bank may have been the Medici Bank of Florence or the Bank of St George of Genoa. Both companies loaned money to princes, kings, emperors and popes and also influenced the politics within their own city-states and abroad. --Fenrir51 (talk) 14:03, May 13, 2014 (UTC)
While the Medici Bank may have inspired it's socio-economic role its disign likely draws from Iron Mountain one of the most secure plases in the USA. Like the Iron Bank (IB), Iron Mountain (IM) was an old mine, that was converted to a vault and is used by many of the biggest corprate entites on their respective continent.
