Stone Hedge[1] is a castle in the Riverlands. It is the seat of House Bracken, a vassal house holding fealty to House Tully of Riverrun. The castle is located east of Riverrun, south of the Red Fork of the Trident.
History[]
House of the Dragon: Season 2[]
Daemon Targaryen parleys with Lord Amos Bracken near Stone Hedge. Daemon threatens to burn him with Caraxes if he doesn't surrender, but Amos calls his bluff and returns to Stone Hedge unharmed. Sometime later, Willem Blackwood takes the castle and forces Amos to raise Rhaenyra's banner.[2]
Game of Thrones: Season 2[]
During the War of the Five Kings, Stone Hedge is occupied by Lannister forces. Following the lifting of the Lannister siege of Riverrun at the Battle of the Camps, Robb Stark divides his host in two, one that invades the Westerlands under his personal command, and another under the command of Greatjon Umber, which liberates Stone Hedge as well as other castles west of the Red Fork.[3]
In the books[]
In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, Stone Hedge is an important stronghold of the Riverlands. It was burned by Gregor Clegane at the outset of the War of the Five Kings. Lord Jonos Bracken later retakes the castle after Robb Stark drove the Lannister army from the area.
During the Dance of the Dragons, following his capture of Harrenhal, Prince Daemon Targaryen led an army of Black-loyal Riverlords to attack Stone Hedge. With most of its forces away fighting at the Battle of the Burning Mill, the Blacks easily captured the castle, along with Lord Humfrey Bracken and his family. When Humfrey's bastard son, Ser Raylon Rivers, led the survivors of the Burning Mill back to Stone Hedge only to find Daemon in control of the castle, he surrendered to save the lives of his kin. The fall of Stone Hedge ended any Green strength in the Riverlands, leaving the region completely under Black control.
