Roger William Allam (born 26 October 1953) is an English actor noted for his roles on stage and on screen. He has won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor once and been nominated twice more. On stage he is best known for playing Inspector Javert in the original London run of Les Miserables, while on television he is known for recurring roles in political satire The Thick of It and in the second season of Ashes to Ashes. In film he is noted for roles in V For Vendetta and Tamara Drewe.
In Game of Thrones Allam plays the role of Illyrio Mopatis, replacing Ian McNeice who had played the role in the unscreened pilot and been forced to withdraw due to a scheduling conflict. Allam was announced in the role on 19 September 2010.
