Raventree Hall[1] is a castle in the Riverlands. It is the seat of House Blackwood, a vassal house holding fealty to House Tully of Riverrun. The castle is located just north of Riverrun, near the coast of Ironman's Bay.
History[]
Game of Thrones: Season 1[]
During the War of the Five Kings, Raventree Hall is occupied by the forces of House Lannister.[2]
Game of Thrones: Season 2[]
King Robb Stark splits his army before invading Westerlands. The second host led by Greatjon Umber is sent to liberate Raventree Hall from Lannister occupation.[2]
In the books[]
In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, Raventree Hall is ancient, dating back to the days of the First Men. The walls are covered in moss, with a tower at each angle in the wall. Two huge, square towers flank the gate. Inside the walls are an outer ward, a large timber keep and a godswood. The godswood contains a single weirwood of massive size. Hundreds of ravens roost on the dead weirwood, which is said to have been poisoned by the Brackens, the Blackwoods' ancestral foes.
Following the Red Wedding, the yielding of most of the Riverlords and recently Riverrun, Raventree Hall is last castle in the Riverlands refusing to yield to the Lannisters. Currently a force of the Brackens, who chose to submit to the Iron Throne, is besieging it.
After resolving the siege of Riverrun, Jaime travels to Raventree. He persuades Lord Tytos Blackwood, non-violently, to surrender.
The exact location of Raventree Hall is unconfirmed in maps from the novels, though maps in the TV series place it north of Riverrun and the Red Fork of the Trident, south of Seagard and the Blue Fork. Subsequent descriptions in The World of Ice & Fire (2014) do seem to generally match this: when the ironborn under Harwyn Hoare conquered the Riverlands, they advanced east from the coast, then fought the Blackwoods, then engaged the Storm Kings in a battle farther east at Fairmarket - which does seem to confirm that Raventree Hall is in this general location.
