Ramin Djawadi[a] (born July 19, 1974) is a Grammy and Emmy-nominated German-Iranian composer of music for film and television, and is the composer for Game of Thrones and its prequel series, House of the Dragon.

Career[]

Djawadi is of German and Iranian descent. A protégé of Hans Zimmer, he produced individual pieces of music for The Time Machine, Basic, The Recruit and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. He collaborated with Zimmer on the music for Thunderbirds, Something's Gotta Give and Batman Begins.

Striking out on his own, Djawadi has produced the theme music for the movies Blade: Trinity, The Unborn, Mr. Brooks, Deception, Ask the Dust, Open Season and Open Season 2. His highest-profile work in film has been providing the theme music for Iron Man and Clash of the Titans. In television he has provided the main title music for FlashForward, Prison Break, Person of Interest and Westworld, also having worked on Threshold and Blade: The Series. He has also worked in computer gaming, providing the soundtrack for the 2010 reboot of the Medal of Honor series.

Game of Thrones[]

Stephen Warbeck was the original composer during early production on Game of Thrones but he withdrew from the project on February 2, 2011, and none of his work subsequently appeared in the TV series.

Djawadi was then hired to be the TV series's composer, which he continued to work on from Season 1 through Season 8. In addition to many themes and leitmotifs, Djawadi also composed the main series theme used in the opening credits.

House of the Dragon[]

On February 1, 2021, it was confirmed that Djawadi would return as the composer for the Game of Thrones successor show, House of the Dragon[1].
