The opening credits of House of the Dragon: Season 2 introduce each episode starting with "A Son for a Son." Overhauling the original opening credits from Season 1, it features the weaving of a tapestry of Targaryen family history. The Game of Thrones theme music by Ramin Djawadi also returns.[1]

- Aegon I flying on Balerion, Rhaenys flying on Meraxes, and Visenya flying on Vhagar, above the Velaryon fleet.
- The Field of Fire. Dead men with the shields of House Gardener and House Lannister being devoured by Vhagar and Balerion.
- Ronnel Arryn, Sharra Arryn, Torrhen Stark, and Edmyn Tully kneeling.
- The construction of the Red Keep and King's Landing.
- Maegor Targaryen dead on the Iron Throne, flanked by Vermithor and Silverwing.
- Jaehaerys and Alysanne Targaryen reconciling with the Faith of the Seven.
- The Great Council at Harrenhal. From left to right: Viserys, Aemma, the High Septon, Jaehaerys, Ryam Redwyne, Corlys, and Rhaenys.
- The rivalry between Alicent Hightower and Rhaenyra Targaryen.
- Aegon II Targaryen sitting on the Iron Throne and Rhaenyra Targaryen sitting on Dragonstone's throne, both surrounded by the shields of various noble houses of Westeros:
- Vhagar killing Arrax.
