Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen was a prince of the Targaryen dynasty, the son of Aegon II Targaryen and Helaena Targaryen.
Biography[]
Background[]
Jaehaerys was the son and heir of King Aegon II Targaryen and Queen Helaena Targaryen. He is the twin brother of Princess Jaehaera Targaryen.[4]
Young Jaehaerys was named after Viserys's grandfather, the great old King Jaehaerys I Targaryen.
House of the Dragon: Season 1[]
Jaehaerys is playing with his sister as their mother is doing her needlework.[3]
The Greens orchestrate a successful coup to set aside Viserys's chosen heir, Jaehaerys's half-aunt Rhaenyra, in favor of Aegon II. Jaehaerys thereby becomes heir to the Iron Throne, having previously been eighth in the line of succession.[3]
House of the Dragon: Season 2[]
Aegon II enters the Red Keep's nursery, searching for Jaehaerys. Helaena informs him that Jaehaerys is in the library, and asks Aegon not to interrupt his "custom". At his father's insistence, Jaehaerys accompanies him to a meeting of the Green Council. He amuses himself by stealing Tyland Lannister's marble of office, much to his father's entertainment and Tyland's annoyance. Aegon further embarrasses Tyland by suggesting he should give Jaehaerys a pony ride on his back, but Alicent puts an end to the matter, and an annoyed Aegon sends Jaehaerys off with one of his retainers.[1]
A few nights later, Jaehaerys is murdered in his bed by Blood and Cheese in retaliation for his cousin Lucerys Velaryon's murder at the hands of his uncle, Aemond Targaryen (Jaehaerys was not the intended target, but Blood and Cheese's employer, Daemon had assured them another prince of Aegon's blood would suffice if Aemond could not be targeted). After Helaena reluctantly points him out to the assassins to save his sister, Blood and Cheese hold him down and behead him, as Daemon had demanded the head as proof for the other half of their payment. Helaena flees the scene with Jaehaera to her mother's bedchamber, informing Alicent in a state of shock that Jaehaerys is dead.[1]

1 Jaehaerys had thirteen children in all. For simplicity, only the direct ancestors of future generations are on this family tree and they are not in the exact order of birth. The thirteen children in correct order are: Aegon, Daenerys, Aemon, Baelon, Alyssa, Maegelle, Vaegon, Daella, Saera, Viserra, Gaemon, Valerion, and Gael.
2 Due to the nature of their respective births and deaths, Baelon Targaryen, son of Viserys and Aemma, and Visenya Targaryen, daughter of Rhaenyra and Daemon, are not included on this family tree.
3 While Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey are officially Laenor's, he and Rhaenyra never had any biological issue. Their three sons were in fact fathered by Harwin Strong.
In the books[]
In Fire & Blood, Jaehaerys was born in 123 AC, the twin brother of Jaehaera. He was larger and healthier than his sister, but was born with six fingers on his left hand, and six toes on each foot, a physical defect which was considered somewhat of an embarrassment to the greens.

Notes[]
- ↑ According to Ryan Condal, Jaehaerys Targaryen is 4 years old in "A Son for a Son" which takes place in 132 AC.
- ↑ In "A Son for a Son," Daemon Targaryen and Otto Hightower mention that days have passed since Viserys Targaryen and Lucerys Velaryon's deaths. Unlike the first season, no major time jumps are expected; therefore, House of the Dragon: Season 2 takes place in 132 AC.
