Isaac Hempstead-Wright (born 9 April 1999), born Isaac William Hempstead, is an English actor. He stars in HBO's Game of Thrones as Bran Stark.
He was confirmed in the role on 13 October 2009. Although Game of Thrones was his first major television role, he also appeared in the 2011 Horror filmThe Awakeningin the role of Tom Hill, in the 2014 animated comedy film The Boxtrolls as Eggs and has appeared in a number of commercials.
He was part of the initial starring cast and remains a member of the starring cast for the second, third, fourth, and sixth seasons, which earned him two Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations as Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in Drama Series at the 18th and 20th Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Initially Hempstead-Wright had no interest in acting until he joined a drama club to get out of playing football on Saturday mornings during the cold months of the year. Currently, Hempstead-Wright resides with his family in Faversham, Kent. He plays piano and drums.
Isaac started wearing a wig to play Bran in Season 4: before that in Seasons 1 to 3, he used his own hair.
Isaac confirmed that he would be taking a year off and not appear in Season 5: his storyline had caught up with where it was in the novels, Bran was at a good stopping point, and the writers wanted to catch up on several other subplots which were competing for screentime.
