Indira Varma (born 27 September, 1973)[1] is an English actress who is best known for her role as Niobe of the Voreni in HBO's Rome, which also starred Game of Thrones cast members Ciaran Hinds and Tobias Menzies. She is also known for her roles in the films Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love, Bride and Prejudice and Basic Instinct 2 as well as the TV series Luther, Human Target and Torchwood, which starred Burn Gorman. She also voiced Vivienne, a major supporting character, in Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Varma is the only child of a South Asian Indian father and a Swiss mother who was part Genoese Italian. She was a member of Musical Youth Theatre Company. She graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London in 1995.
In Game of Thrones, Varma plays the role of Ellaria Sand, the paramour of Prince Oberyn Martell. She joined the cast as a guest star in the fourth season, and was promoted to starring cast member in the fifth season.
