Ian Beattie is a Northern Irish actor. He attended Methodist College Belfast. He is best known for playing the role of Antigonus in Oliver Stone's movie Alexander, and has also appeared in The Tudors, Mo and Space Truckers.
In Game of Thrones he is playing Ser Meryn Trant, a knight of the Kingsguard. He was announced in the role on 14 October 2010. He initially appeared as a guest star in the first season and returned in this role for the second, third, and fourth season.
His father could possibly be credited for bringing alive the student entertainment scene in Belfast during a very dark time in the city's history with The Crescent Bar. Prior to The Crescent there really was nowhere for Queens University students to go where they could be guaranteed a safe night out. His Father (TJ) changed all of that with a run down bar in the city's Sandy Row area where sawdust and soul was served up on a nightly basis.
