- "When your father named me to his Kingsguard, it was the highest honor any Cole had ever known."
- ―Criston Cole to Rhaenyra Targaryen
House Cole[1] of Blackhaven is a minor house in the Dornish Marches. They serve House Dondarrion as stewards of Blackhaven. Although they are called a noble house and have their own coat of arms, they are considered lowborn. At least one member of House Cole is of Dornish descent.[2]
History[]
Little is known of House Cole except that they serve as stewards to House Dondarrion at Blackhaven.[2] They have no hereditary lands or titles.[3]
Members[]
- Criston Cole's father, the steward of Blackhaven and head of House Cole.
- Ser Criston Cole, his son. Lord Commander of the Kingsguard and Hand of the King of Aegon II Targaryen. Known as "Kingmaker."
In the books[]
In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, the status of House Cole is uncertain. During the time span of the events described in the novels, there are two known characters whose surname is Cole:
- Dick Cole, an exile serving with the Golden Company.
- Will Cole, an exile serving with the Golden Company.
It is uncertain whether the aforementioned Dick and Will actually belong to House Cole, because in the free companies a man can call himself whatever he chooses. It is also not stated whether they are related to each other.
