Game of Thrones: Conquest & Rebellion: An Animated History of the Seven Kingdoms[2] is an animated featurette of Game of Thrones. It was released on December 12, 2017 in Game of Thrones: The Complete Seventh Season. It was narrated by Harry Lloyd as Viserys Targaryen, Conleth Hill as Varys, Pilou Asbæk as Euron Greyjoy, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Jaime Lannister, Sophie Turner as Sansa Stark, and Aidan Gillen as Petyr Baelish, and written by Dave Hill.

Premise

Told in the animated, storybook style of the History & Lore[sic] features, Game of Thrones: Conquest & Rebellion brings you the never-before-seen story of the turbulent events that shaped Westeros for thousands of years before before the series start.[11]

Cast members Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister), Pilou Asbæk (Euron Greyjoy), Aidan Gillen (Littlefinger), Conleth Hill (Varys) and Harry Lloyd (Viserys Targaryen) team up to narrate this digitally animated telling of Aegon Targaryen's attempts to conquer the Seven Kingdoms, written by show writer Dave Hill.[11]

True to the “Fire and Blood” words of House Targaryen, rivers, fields and skies turn red as Aegon sets out on his brave and bloody conquest to defeat the seven reigning families that made up the realm – an impossible feat were it not for Aegon's possession of the most feared and ferocious weapons in all of Westeros: Dragons.[11]

Overview

Game of Thrones: Conquest & Rebellion tells the story of Aegon's Conquest which first unified the Seven Kingdoms, nearly 300 years before the War of the Five Kings, including the founding of King's Landing and creation of the Iron Throne.

The second-to-last chapter goes on to describe the First Dornish War which followed the main phase of the conquest - during which House Martell alone managed to rebel against Targaryen rule.

The final (super-sized) chapter then briefly glosses over the major wars and crises the Targaryen dynasty faced during the next three centuries, to connect them to the present day. It then gives a more detailed recap of the downfall of the Targaryen dynasty in Robert's Rebellion, ending with that state of events as they were at the beginning of the main live-action narrative in Season 1 of Game of Thrones (Robert Baratheon on the throne, Daenerys Targaryen and her brother Viserys living in exile in the Free Cities).
