Forums: Index > Watercooler > Who should be cast as Taena of Myr?

I saw some suggestions on a tumblr site for this, and I was thinking about worldbuilding and what people from Myr should look like.

This is a spoiler-free discussion. Basically there's a character in a later book named Taena who is from Myr, that's all the relevant info.

I thought they'd make a more diverse casting pick for Thoros of Myr, though I understand that they originally were going to, but then the original actor had a scheduling conflict. So that's what got me thinking about this. And I was excited about the major casting announcements at Comic-Con.

Some of the wish-list names I saw floating around were Monica Bellucci or Morena Baccarin. All we've really got to go on are that Myrish people, like several other Free Cities, are basically "Mediterranean" looking, olive-skinned, but that can cover a very diverse spectrum.

It would be fun if we got some more big names to join the cast later on.

But I don't know who they should pick.

One fear I saw on one tumblr post is that they might just do what they've been doing, and combine Taena with Ros (madness).--The Dragon Demands (talk) 23:48, August 14, 2012 (UTC)

It's not madness - it could work, that Varys gave Cersei the idea (where she thinks it's her on idea). She could be a handmaid for sweet Margaery and be Cersei's spy, but she only tell her what to tell Cersei. But it would be best if it's Taena.--Mesmermann (talk) 12:54, August 15, 2012 (UTC)

Having established that Shae cannot pull off the pretence of being a ladies maid because she is a whore it would be jarring to put Ros into a ladies made subterfuge scheme. I think it is possible, but they need to establish that Varys has prepared Ros for the role with some sort of courtly experience first.

Morena Baccarin is based in America and kind of busy starring in Homeland so she seems unlikely to me.

Nina Gold has cast Gillian Anderson before (The Crimson Petal and the White and Shadow Dancer), she would be ace for the show but has none of the Mediterranean ethnicity for Taena. Ruth Negga has been cast by Gold (Coup and The Samaritan) and has olive skin (via Ethiopian and Irish heritage) but is too young for Taena. Archie Panjabi (The Good Wife) has been cast by Gold (in The Fall) she would be great for a sand snake IMO. So no good suggestions from me after 10 minutes on IMDb! Maybe some names to consider for other roles though.--Opark 77 (talk) 13:11, August 15, 2012 (UTC)

I agree on Baccarin does fit in the role as Taena. It would be nice having Anderson and Panjabi in the show. But Panjabi is starring on The Good Wife so it's kind of hard for her. Anderson have no long-term project right now, so she could be cast, but as who?
