The First Battle of Deepwood Motte was a battle during the War of the Five Kings. It was part of the campaign orchestrated by Balon Greyjoy - who had crowned himself King of the Iron Islands - to conquer the North.
History
Season 2
Rejecting an offer of an alliance with the North against the Iron Throne, Balon Greyjoy sends his daughter Yara to raid Deepwood Motte, seat of House Glover, with a fleet of thirty ships.[1] Following her father's orders, Yara seizes Deepwood Motte. Robett Glover's wife and two children are imprisoned, and their subjects are brutalized and killed.[2]
Later, Yara rides to Winterfell in an unsuccessful attempt to convince her brother Theon Greyjoy to end his occupation of the Northern seat.[3]
Season 6
Eventually, Robett Glover liberates Deepwood Motte with the help of House Bolton[2] and slays every ironborn there.[4]
During a meeting with Jon Snow and Sansa Stark, Robett sharply mentions how the ironborn have treated his wife and children and their subjects. Still bitter that Robb Stark failed to come to their aid, Robett refuses to aid the Starks in their attempt to retake Winterfell from Ramsay Bolton.[2]
Following the Battle of the Bastards, Robett reconsiders his stance and renews his support for House Stark.[5]
