Desmond is brought before Rhaenyra Targaryen in Maegor's Holdfast as a candidate to replace Ser Ryam Redwyne on the Kingsguard. Despite Ser Harrold Westerling praising him, Rhaenyra dislikes him, and Ser Criston Cole is chosen instead.[1]
