Derek and Brant are present during the funeral for Maester Aemon; Sam notices them staring at him hatefully after Alliser Thorne warns Sam of his vulnerability. During their guard duty, he and his friend Brant attempt to rape Gilly. After severely beating Sam, who intervened, they are scared off by a snarling Ghost.[1]
