- "Ser Barristan Selmy of the Kingsguard led the assault on Old Wyk, while I subdued Great Wyk, the largest of the Iron Islands. But Robert saved the seat of House Greyjoy, Pyke, for himself and Lord Eddard."
- ―Stannis Baratheon
During the Greyjoy Rebellion, Great Wyk was captured by Stannis Baratheon.
History[]
Following the destruction of the Iron Fleet at a sea battle off Fair Isle, Stannis Baratheon led the royal fleet in a counterattack and subdued Great Wyk, the largest of the Iron Islands, while Old Wyk fell to Ser Barristan Selmy.
These two victories paved the way for the subsequent Siege of Pyke, which spelled the end of the Ironborn rebellion.[1]
In the books[]
In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, while Ser Barristan Selmy besieged Old Wyk, Stannis led an assault on Great Wyk during the Greyjoy Rebellion.

Notes[]
- ↑ In "The Wolf and the Lion," which takes place in 298 AC, Robert Baratheon states that the last war in the Seven Kingdoms took place nine years prior. Dialogue in "The Kingsroad" and the "Greyjoy Rebellion" shorts establish that this war was the Greyjoy Rebellion; therefore, it occurred in 289 AC.
