Brant and his friend Derek are present during the funeral for Maester Aemon. Sam notices them staring at him hatefully after being warned of such dangers by Alliser Thorne. During their guard duty, he and Derek attempt to rape Gilly. After severely beating Sam, who intervened, they are scared off by a snarling Ghost.[1]
