- "After years of brutal conflict and unbearable loss, an alliance of the First Men and the Children of the Forest managed to drive the Walkers and their minions back into the frigid northern wastelands from whence they came."
- ―Jeor Mormont
The Battle for the Dawn[b] was the decisive engagement that ended the Long Night.[1]
History[]
Once Westeros endured the Long Night for a generation, an alliance consisting of the First Men and the Children of the Forest defeated the White Walkers and their Army of the Dead, driving them back to the Land of Always Winter. To prevent future invasions of this nature, the Wall was constructed and the Night's Watch was formed.[1]

Notes[]
- ↑ In "The Kingsroad," Jon Snow states that the Night's Watch have guarded the Seven Kingdoms for 8,000 years. In "The History of the Night's Watch - The Night's Watch," Jeor Mormont states that the Night's Watch was founded following the defeat of the White Walkers and the end of the Long Night. In "Lord Snow," Old Nan states that the Long Night lasted a generation; therefore, the Long Night occurred circa 7700 BC.
