Lord Bartimos Celtigar is the head of House Celtigar and Lord of Claw Isle during the Dance of the Dragons.
Biography[]
House of the Dragon: Season 1[]
Bartimos attends the Black Council at Dragonstone, where he briefly bickers with Lord Simon Staunton. Bartimos informs Daemon that Corlys Velaryon has recovered from his fever and he has departed Evenfall, though his destination remains unclear. Daemon commands Bartimos to send ravens to their allies in the Crownlands.
As the Black Council discusses potential allies, Bartimos interrupts by stating that the importance of fighting men is lessened by the number of dragons commanded by Rhaenyra's forces. While Rhaenyra remains cautious, pointing out that the Greens have dragons as well, Daemon is optimistic and agrees with Bartimos that their own greater number will give them the advantage.[2]
House of the Dragon: Season 2[]
Bartimos is present at the Black Council when Rhaenyra returns from the Stormlands.[3]
When news of the murder of Prince Jaeherys Targaryen reaches Dragonstone, Rhaenyra gathers her council to discuss their response. Bartimos assures Rhaenyra that he has seen to it that her guard is doubled. He laments the damage done to their cause by the rumours of Rhaenyra's culpability in the murder, at a time when they most need to win loyalty.[4]
Behind the scenes[]
Bartimos Celtigar's character description for Season 2 reads as follows:
- "A traditionalist member of Queen Rhaenyra’s black council."[5]
In the books[]
In Fire & Blood, Bartimos Celtigar was renowned for his wealth and cunning. He was named to Rhaenyra Targaryen's black council during the Dance of the Dragons.
Lord Celtigar urged Rhaenyra to to fly against King's Landing, and reduce the city to ash and bone, pointing out that the greens had only four dragons, while the blacks had nine. Rhaenyra rejected the idea, explaining that they actually had only five dragons (she was not strong enough to fly, while Silverwing, Vermithor, and Seasmoke had no riders), and Vhagar was among the four Aegon had - so they had no advantage.
