- "My eldest brother, Rodrik, led a frontal assault on Seagard, a town built to protect the mainland from us. After ferocious fighting beneath the city walls he was slain by Lord Jason Mallister, and his men defeated."
- ―Theon Greyjoy
An assault on Seagard[1] was the second battle of the Greyjoy Rebellion, which took place nine years before the War of the Five Kings.
History[]
The forces of House Greyjoy, led by Rodrik Greyjoy, the firstborn son and heir of Balon Greyjoy, attacked Seagard, seat of House Mallister, on Ironman's Bay. The attack, however, was a failure and Rodrik was killed by Jason Mallister, the head of the house.[1]
In the books[]
In the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, Lord Jason Mallister slew Rodrik beneath the walls of Seagard and drove his men back into the sea. It was the only time in three hundred years that the bell in the Booming Tower of Seagard was rung.
The storming of Seagard was a major setback for House Greyjoy, not only because Rodrik was Balon's heir, but also because the failed assault prevented the ironborn from grabbing any land in the Riverlands.

Notes[]
- ↑ In "The Wolf and the Lion," which takes place in 298 AC, Robert Baratheon states that the last war in the Seven Kingdoms took place nine years prior. Dialogue in "The Kingsroad" and the "Greyjoy Rebellion" shorts establish that this war was the Greyjoy Rebellion; therefore, it occurred in 289 AC.
