„Geležinis Sostas teisiškai priklauso man. Ir visi kurie tai neigia yra mano priešai.“
―Stannis Baratheon[src]

Karalius Stanis Barateonas pagrindinis veikėjas 2, 3, 4, 5 sezonuose. Personažo vaidmenį atlieka aktoriu Stephen Dillane, jis debiutavo „The North Remembers“ serijoje. Stanis pirmame sezone nepasirodė, tačiau buvo dažnai minimas. Jis yra Drakono Uolos lordas, jaunesnis Karaliaus Roberto Barateono brolis ir vyresnis Renlio Barateono brolis.

Stanis yra antrasis Stefono Barateono ir Kasanos Barateon sūnus, jaunesnysis Karaliaus Roberto Barateono brolis ir vyresnis Renlio Barateono brolis. is the second born son of [[Steffon Steffon was the head of House Baratheon and Lord Paramount of the Stormlands. The Stormlands are one of the constituent regions of the Seven Kingdoms and House Baratheon is one of the Great Houses of the realm. Steffon died when the boys were young and Robert inherited his titles. Stannis is a serious and severe man.[1]

Robert led a rebellion against King Aerys II Targaryen, deposing and replacing him as the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms. Stannis fought for Robert during the war. He was besieged at Storm's End for much of the conflict. He was rescued from starvation by the smuggler Davos, who brought a ship full of onions into the castle. Stannis knighted Davos as a reward but also punished him for his smuggling by cutting four finger tips from his right hand. Davos is fiercely loyal to Stannis and saw his punishment as just.[2][3] Davos's son Matthos served Stannis as a scribe.[4] Stannis went on to conquer Dragonstone, the seat of House Targaryen. During the Greyjoy Rebellion, Stannis destroyed the Greyjoy fleet.[5]

Stannis and Robert never loved one another.[6][7] Despite Stannis' service during the war, Robert made Renly the Lord of Storm's End following his victory. Renly was only a child during the civil war, so he did not fight.[8] Stannis was made Prince of Dragonstone and served on his brother's small council as Master of Ships. Though not outright cruel or malicious, he is a stern and humorless man, making him the least popular of the Baratheon brothers.[1]

He married Selyse Florent.[1] They have a loveless marriage; Stannis regards her as sickly and resents her failure to bear him a son.[9] During the first season Stannis is on Dragonstone for an extended stay, preferring the solitude of the island.[1]

He has converted to the Lord of Light under the influence of the priestess Melisandre. His household have largely followed his conversion.[10] He has adopted the flaming red heart of the Lord of Light with the stag of Baratheon in the middle as his sigil.[11]

1 sezonasRedaguoti

After King Robert's death, and realizing the truth of Joffrey's parentage, Eddard decides to back Stannis as the rightful King. Renly offers to help Eddard take Joffrey into custody, but only if Eddard backs Renly's own claim to the throne. Eddard angrily rejects the suggestion, pointing out that Stannis has the better claim and is a skilled battle commander and leader. Renly counters that Stannis is a good soldier like Robert, but like Robert may not make the best king. Eddard later sends a letter to Stannis at his fortress stronghold of Dragonstone, informing him of the situation. Littlefinger also advocates backing someone else - Joffrey or Renly - and manipulating them from behind the scenes, since Stannis claiming the throne will plunge the Seven Kingdoms into war. Eddard is adamant that Stannis is the rightful heir.[14]

Varys tells Eddard that Queen Cersei is more concerned about Stannis than anyone else, including the army that Robb Stark has raised. Stannis is a proven and experienced battle commander and is known to be utterly without mercy to his enemies. Eddard replies that Stannis is the legitimate heir to the Iron Throne, to Varys' disappointment.[15]

With civil war erupting in the Seven Kingdoms, news reaches both the Lannister and Stark camps that Stannis and Renly have made claims on the Iron Throne. Robb Stark considers declaring for Stannis, but his bannermen convince him to proclaim himself the King in the North.[16]

Spoken by Stannis

"He wasn't my "beloved" brother. I didn't love him. He didn't love me."
―Stannis Baratheon about his late brother Robert Baratheon.[src]
"Joffrey, Renly, Robb Stark, they're all thieves. They'll bend the knee or I'll destroy them."
―Stannis Baratheon[src]
"A good act does not wash out the bad, nor a bad the good."
―Stannis Baratheon to Davos Seaworth[src]
"Hard truths cut both ways, Ser Davos."
―Stannis Baratheon to Davos Seaworth[src]
"Come with me and take this city!"
―Stannis Baratheon to his soldiers during the Battle of the Blackwater[src]
"My enemies think they've destroyed me. They're laughing at me, the way Renly laughed at me. I want Joffrey dead. I want Robb Stark dead. Make me another son."
―Stannis Baratheon to Melisandre[src]
"The darkness will devour them all, she says. The night that never ends. Unless I triumph. I never asked for this. No more than I asked to be king. We do not choose our destinies. But we must do our duty, no? Great or small we must do our duty. What's one bastard against a kingdom?"
―Stannis Baratheon to Davos Seaworth[src]
"My enemies have made my kingdom bleed. I will not forget that. I will not forgive that. I will punish them with any arms at my disposal."
―Stannis Baratheon to Davos Seaworth[src]
"I hate a good many things, but I suffer them all the same."
―Stannis Baratheon to Selyse Baratheon[src]
"If I do not press my claim, my claim will be forgotten. I will not become a page in someone else's history book."
―Stannis Baratheon to Davos Seaworth[src]
"It is customary to kneel when surrendering to a king."
―Stannis Baratheon to Mance Rayder[src]
"I shall take back the North from the thieves who stole it. Tywin Lannister is dead, he can't protect them now. I shall mount Roose Bolton's head on a spike."
―Stannis Baratheon to Jon Snow[src]
"Kneel before me, lay your sword at my feet, pledge me your service and you'll rise again as Jon Stark, Lord of Winterfell."
―Stannis Baratheon to Jon Snow[src]
"We march to victory or we march to defeat, but we go forward."
―Stannis Baratheon to Davos Seaworth[src]
"If a man knows what he is and remains true to himself, the choice is no choice at all. He must fulfill his destiny and become who he is meant to be, however much he may hate it."
―Stannis Baratheon to Shireen Baratheon[src]
"Forgive me."
―Stannis Baratheon to Shireen Baratheon before ordering her to be sacrificed[src]
"Go on, do your duty."
―Stannis Baratheon's final words to Brienne of Tarth[src]

Spoken of Stannis

"Stannis has the personality of a lobster."
Loras Tyrell to Renly Baratheon[src]
"Stannis is a commander. He's led men into war twice. He destroyed the Greyjoy fleet."
Eddard Stark to Renly Baratheon[src]
"Lord Stannis has the best claim to the throne. He is a proven battle commander and he is utterly without mercy."
Varys to Eddard Stark[src]
"There's no man in the Seven Kingdoms more honorable than Stannis Baratheon or more worthy of loyalty."
Davos Seaworth to Salladhor Saan[src]
"You Westerosi are funny people. A man chops off your fingers and you fall in love with him!"
―Salladhor Saan to Davos Seaworth[src]
"The whole realm denies it, from Dorne to the Wall. Old men deny it with their death rattle and unborn children deny it in their mother's wombs. No one wants you for their king."
Renly Baratheon to Stannis on his claim to the throne.[src]
"Born amidst salt and smoke? Is he a ham?"
Renly Baratheon talking to Melisandre about Stannis.[src]
"They say Stannis never smiles. I'll give him a red smile from ear to ear."
Joffrey Baratheon to Tyrion Lannister[src]
"The dark arts have provided Lord Stannis with his armies and paved his path to our door. For a man in service to such powers to sit on the Iron Throne, I can think of nothing worse. And tonight, I believe you are the only man who can stop him."
Varys to Tyrion Lannister before the Battle of the Blackwater[src]
"Your Grace, you are the rightful king. Not only by blood. You're an honorable man, a just man."
Davos Seaworth to Stannis Baratheon[src]
"There's only one reliable leader left in Westeros: Stannis! He's got the birthright, he's in his prime, he is a tried and tested battle commander and he doesn't just talk about paying people back, he does it!"
Davos Seaworth to Tycho Nestoris[src]
"I respect him. If he gets what he wants, I expect he'll be a better ruler than the fools sitting on the Iron Throne the last hundred years. But I'll never serve him."
Mance Rayder to Jon Snow[src]
"He's the finest military commander in Westeros. A betting man would put his money on Stannis."
Petyr Baelish to Sansa Stark[src]
"Where's Stannis?"
―Jon Snow to Melisandre after she returns to Castle Black alone.[src]

Behind the scenesRedaguoti

  • On the Season 2 Blu-ray, Stannis narrates Histories & Lore videos on the "Greyjoy Rebellion", "Robert's Rebellion" and "Dragonstone".
  • Although Stannis is Robert Baratheon's younger brother, Stephen Dillane is actually eight years older than Mark Addy, who played Robert. In the novels, creating the shadow-baby creature with Melisandre actually drained some of Stannis's life-force, making him look prematurely old - though only slightly, enough that his followers think he is simply haggard from stress from the Lannisters stealing his throne and destroying his army at the Blackwater.
  • On August 27, 2015, George RR Martin confirmed that Stannis is still alive in the novels during an interview on Livejournal. However, what this means for the show is currently unknown.
